In Tokyo, animals were the first to be affected. There were no discrimination between zoo animals & domestic: fatal attacks rose 120% within one year, but that wasn't all. There were disappearances. At first it was just inanimate objects & parts of the environment. Trees. Cars. And then people started vanishing.

The answer: the government institute MEXT. Focused on Quantum Research, their mission was to circumvent a crisis by transporting the whole population from then-present day 2215 to 2227. However, they had made a grievous error concerning the Law of Conservation of Mass.

As a result, most of mankind was relocated to an alternate era, leaving behind domesticated animals to fend for themselves.
