Morning. It was the time of day when things just begin to stir. A time when silence and solitude give way to noise and camaraderie. Time seemingly ticked by slowly, but was picking up minute by minute. There was one creature knew this particularly well, and that was Shali. The black female was curled up into a tight ball, sleeping peacefully in her den. Sweet dreams flowed consistently through her subconscious mind and her breathing was even. Her ribs rose and fell with each inhale and exhale. Occasionally, Shali’s paw or tail would twitch signifying a moving dream too. All was well so far on this day, and would hopefully remain that way for a while. Chaos and cacophony would not be appreciated when things started out so nicely.
After approximately an hour more, without warning, the female’s head lifted slowly. Nothing in particular made her stir, just her own body’s reflex. She didn’t know exactly why this happened, it just did sometimes. Shali uncurled herself slowly, legs stiffly extending in the opposite direction of her body. A loud whine exited her thin, black lips and her gray eyes remained partially closed. With a sigh, the woman rolled herself onto her paws and glanced about her surroundings sleepily. Apparently there was not much for her to do today yet, or her orders from the alpha would have reached her way before now. Shali was rather grateful that that had not happened quite yet. This because if there was one thing she liked to do, it was sleep. Without proper rest, the female was the epitome of a grouch face. Others were sure to get a glare of annoyance, and her posture was slightly threatening. Subordinates now knew better than to say anything to her directly for a while. That sight was never, ever pretty.
The ebony wolf decided that it was time to get moving. It was time to get her motor running and do something productive. Sure, sleeping was productive in its own way; however, other things were on the agenda. Shali sniffed the air from within her rocky den built into the wall. It was big enough to be comfortable for her and perhaps one other wolf too. She bent her knees and jumped down to the cave floor with a quiet thump! There was a thick leather strap that wrapped around Shali’s shoulder and underarm. This was where she kept her soul stone. From the jump down, the strap slid down to her ankle, like usual. The lady was used to it by now though, and gingerly lifted it back to its original position. With that, the beta padded out of the structure to begin her day.

Reeves had promised his mother Larue that he would come back to her as soon as he was able to control his powers. In order to do that, he would need to find the master of the soul stones. Yet he had found no clues to where the master could be. No one in Naxorus had known where to start looking so Reeves had traveled out towards the pack of Kyon in hopes that the canines would know where to start looking. After all, Reeves didn't even know if he was looking for a canine or a feline.
His paws were starting to get sore and he was dying for a drink of water but he couldn't quit now. He had finally made it to the less dense outskirts of the jungle and he knew that the pack's home wasn't far. He was hoping to come across a single canine or maybe a small group of scouts that he could speak with instead of strolling right up to the home of the canines. He wasn't sure how the canines felt about the felines that lived in the city and temple near them but he didn't want to test his luck.
It wasn't long before he paused to take a breath. Sitting down in the shade of a tree, the less dense vegetation made it easier for Reeves to see if anything was coming. The pale golden lion caught sight of a shadow of a figure not far away. Light blue eyes straining to make out the canine figure, he stayed where he was until the canine was close enough to hear his words. "Hello, I mean no harm. Just a traveler passing through. My name is Reeves. Reeves Katsaros." He introduced himself, not wanting to start off on the wrong paw since he knew many canines weren't fond of the felines.
The gray wolf female was padding along, minding her own business when she heard something nearby. Her head whipped around to attention, and her forehead crinkled in wonderment. ‘What in the world?’ Shali thought, not expecting any visitors along the way, especially a lion. She stopped mid-step for a moment, listening to her surroundings, and then finally resumed her forward motion. It was then that she acknowledged the male lion, and processed his words.
Shali’s stone gray eyes narrowed suspiciously at him and her nose came within inches of his muzzle. The woman’s ears folded back on her head, and she attempted to slowly stroll around him in inspection. Her inquisitive nature kicked in quickly, and she studied him carefully. How was she to know that he was being completely honest? This Reeves guy could be putting on some kind of façade to get her guard down.
But those eyes, there was something about those eyes. Shali came to a stop in front of the male again and waited. Thoughts flooded her mind and her instincts told her that it would be alright. If something fishy came up, she was prepared to throw down. But strangely, the lass didn’t get that vibe anymore. He did not seem like the type to randomly come into another territory and start a random fight. On top of that, his soul stone was not indicative of a dark heart from what she could tell. Shali had heard the surname Katsaros before, but up to this point had no qualms with them. Some other canines might think otherwise if they came into contact, but so far, so good. They could make their own judgments, if they showed up that is. The pack seemed to be more separated today.
The wolf extended a paw, but if he wanted to shake it, that was up to him. She put her own down shortly after. “Shali Demitrius,”she said simply. Formal titles weren’t really called for in this particular situation she figured. Shali’s voice was light as she spoke, and the underlying tone was even somewhat friendly. Her tail gave a single swing behind her before she reclined on silken haunches. Shali glanced down at her paws, and shuffled the short foliage beneath them for a minute. It wasn’t nerves that evoked this behavior, rather the wolf was just thinking of what to say next, which was rare for her. Normally words tumble out of her mouth like a waterfall, however not now for whatever reason. If she didn’t say something here though, this whole thing could turn awkward really quickly. “Welcome to the lands of Kyon…what exactly brings you here…uh Reeves…was it?” Shali questioned. She was just going to get to the point of the conversation, no holds barred. The dude said he was just passing through, but surely he wouldn’t have come this way for nothing. And judging by the way he was resting his rump on canine lands, he had made quite the journey already.

Reeves was only a little surprised when the female wolf got up in his face before strolling around him in inspection. He was far to tired to put up a fight right now anyways and for all he knew, this was customary of canines. He wasn't one to judge or get in the way of customs. He had no quarrel with canines and found them to be quite interesting as well as just as useful as a feline. But he knew there were others that didn't like the dog like creatures. They called them dirty and not as intelligent as the feline species. Reeves didn't figure that was true but he hadn't had enough experience with canines to really know which species was more intelligent.
His light blue eyes somewhat followed her as she circled him before she came to stop in front of him. Shali Demitrius, The female finally spoke her name and Reeves smiled a bit, glad to see that her uncertainty had diminished for the most part. Her paw stretched out to him and he lifted his own paw to shake it. His jaws were slightly parted as he panted a bit, still tired from his long journey.
Welcome to the lands of Kyon…what exactly brings you here…uh Reeves…was it? Dipping his head in a nod to reply to her question, he licked his lips as he prepared to speak. "I didn't wish to trespass but... I come seeking information about the master of the soul stones..." He began, ears pricking towards her a bit as he gave her a bit of information before he continued. He wasn't sure if she would call him crazy for believing in such things or if she too believed there was a master of the soul stones out there and possibly had some information about him Either way, he'd come this far and he might as well ask his question, even if she did end up laughing at him and telling him to go away.
Shali’s initial reaction to Reeves’ words was a tilt of her head to the side. There was wonderment and curiosity clearly on her features. It wasn’t long though before her head tilted back to its normal position. Master of soul stones? What did he want with the master of soul stones? Hmm…well that certainly was not something she’d heard every day. However, the good news was that Shali had heard a minute fraction about him. The bad news was that she’d ONLY heard a minute fraction about him. The dude was somewhat of an enigma around here. Some claimed that had come into contact with him and actually spoke with him. Others did not believe the hype and went about on their merry ways like nothing was amiss. Shali herself had never laid eyes on this so-called master, and remained a neutral party in the matter. At this point in her life, the she-wolf was content with the level of soul stone she was at. If she advanced farther, then that was hunky dory, peachy keen. That being said, her goal in life was not to find this master like Reeves. Instead it was to etch out a meaningful life for herself and those that called Kyon home.
A low hum reverberated in Shali’s throat for a moment. She was really curious to know Reeves’ intentions in finding a creature with so much potential knowledge and power. On one hand, she did not want to be the one to orchestrate the demise of anyone by telling the lion what she knew. But then again as her soft gray eyes scanned over him, he still did not seem like vicious type to her. Additionally, it wasn’t like she knew all that much anyways. Perhaps she could just give him a clue and point him in the right direction. That way guilt would not fall on her shoulders should something go wrong, and she would still be helpful to the best of her abilities. And, believe it or not, Shali did want to help him, different species or not.
“Well, there isn’t much that I can tell you,” Shali began. “I only know what I’ve heard, so you can take it with a grain of salt really. Pretty much it’s just gossip and hearsay.” There was a slight shrug to the wolf’s left shoulder before she continued. “From what I hear, the master is indeed a male canine, so your trespassing is justified and I won’t hold it against you. I’ll gladly vouch for you should someone say otherwise, I feel like I can trust you enough so far. I’ve also heard that the master is very lean and leggy in appearance if that’s any help to you. The last thing is that you’d probably have a good shot if you keep heading south. I recently came from the dens to the north and there was no sign of him.”
The female wolf shifted her weight on her paws once before resuming talking. “Before you do go, it seems like you need a rest, so there is no rush to leave. And I spotted a small pool of water not too far from here that you’re welcome to. If you’re thirsty that is.” There was nothing wrong with being hospitable right? Right.

Reeves couldn't help but prick his ears a bit more as he watched her expression, trying to gauge exactly what her reaction would be to simply naming the master of the soul stones. He knew there were plenty of rumors floating around about him but he hadn't heard many of the rumors other than the fact that the master was a thing. The look of curiosity that lit up Shali's face made him slump a bit, assuming that she was just now hearing word of this and had no knowledge of the master.
Well, there isn’t much that I can tell you. I only know what I’ve heard, so you can take it with a grain of salt really. Pretty much it’s just gossip and hearsay. Her words however breathed a new light into Reeves and he perked up a bit, not caring if all she knew was rumors. He'd take rumors right now since he hadn't learned anything new about the master from his mother back at Lucis Temple. He leaned forward a bit, eagerly awaiting her words.
From what I hear, the master is indeed a male canine, so your trespassing is justified and I won’t hold it against you. I’ll gladly vouch for you should someone say otherwise, I feel like I can trust you enough so far. I’ve also heard that the master is very lean and leggy in appearance if that’s any help to you. The last thing is that you’d probably have a good shot if you keep heading south. I recently came from the dens to the north and there was no sign of him. As she spoke, Reeves memorized every word she said so he could draw on it at a later time if he needed. Her words were far more than he could have ever hoped for and he felt a renewed sense of energy flooding through his limbs. This wolf was truly a lifesaver, especially if the information she was giving him ended up being true.
"Thank you so much, that's all very helpful and I appreciate it far more than you could imagine." He answered happily, dipping his head multiple times as he clambered to his paws, feeling their heavy weight once more. She'd even agreed to vouch for him to keep him out of trouble with the rest of the canines of Kyon which was more than he could have asked for. He'd be an easier target than normal due to his exhaustion. Before you do go, it seems like you need a rest, so there is no rush to leave. And I spotted a small pool of water not too far from here that you’re welcome to. If you’re thirsty that is.
He knew that he needed to be on his way soon but his heavy paws and parched throat were calling for attention before he set off on another long voyage. He had no idea how long he would be traveling either so a nice drink of water sounded like the best thing in the word right now. "Water would be wonderful, thank you. Would you mind leading the way? I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with this territory." He requested, hoping she'd help him out a bit more even though she'd already done so much. If the rest of the canines were anything like Shali, Reeves didn't understand why so many felines were opposed to them.
Shali’s mouth turned up into a slight smile as she watched Reeves. His repeated head bobbing was, admittedly, somewhat comical to her. The she-wolf would not keep him long, seeing as he was energetic to get going. Anyone would be if they were one step closer to their goal. Hopefully this information would do him some good down the line. However, Shali was pleased that this “meeting” had taken place along the way. There hadn’t been any bias between the two species, and they were able to get along well enough. There hadn’t been any useless squabbling, bloodshed, or otherwise either. It put Shali’s mind at ease a little bit, and the woman was able to form her own viewpoints on the matter. She honestly did not see where the big division came from either, but such was life at the moment. If both species stayed in their own little corner of the world, then they wouldn’t be forced to interact with one another. Sometimes that could do more harm than good actually. Interaction meant understanding and grace. Separation meant a lack of understanding and isolation.
“You’re welcome, I’m glad that I could help in some way at least,” the she-wolf responded simply. With that, her tail brushed the ground a few times, similar to a common household feather duster. It stirred up the stuff on the ground beneath her a moment before coming to a stop. “Looks like you’ve found yourself a tour guide,” Shali stated. She then stood to her paws and began walking in the other direction without further hesitation. It wasn’t a long walk to the water really, but it was always nice to have company anyways she figured. The sweet smell of water would be clearly apparent within a few minutes or so to a discerning nose.
The black canine moved through the jungle at a mild pace, enough to get things moving, but not enough to leave Reeves behind. “To your left you see trees, vines, and leaves. And on your right you see…trees, leaves…and vines,” Shali noted, a somewhat playful tone intertwined in her voice. That short smile appeared on her features again and she snorted slightly to herself. Kyon was a beautiful place in Shali’s opinion, which was exactly the reason she resided here, that and her adopted family too. Her blood relatives were nowhere to be seen.
Within a short time period, the pool that Shali had spotted before appeared. It wasn’t the largest in diameter, but at least it was clean and seemingly untouched by paws or otherwise. The wolf padded along the edge and began to relax. “We have reached our destination, thank-you for traveling with the Shali express.”

Reeves smiled back at the she wolf and he knew he was probably being a little too grateful for the information she had provided but if that information was correct then it would save him a lot of time and energy looking in unnecessary places. You’re welcome, I’m glad that I could help in some way at least. He smiled a bit wider and nodded yet again. "You have no idea. Will save me a lot of time and energy." He replied, light blue eyes scanning her as her tail wagged against the ground a few times.
Looks like you’ve found yourself a tour guide, He couldn't help but chuckle a bit as she rose to her paws to lead the way. Already on his feet, he skipped a step or two to catch up with her before coming to walk beside her. They fell into a comfortable silence for a few moments and it wasn't long before the refreshing scent of clear, crisp water wafted towards them.
To your left you see trees, vines, and leaves. And on your right you see…trees, leaves…and vines, A hearty laugh rumbled up from his chest as they walked and she explained their surroundings. He couldn't help but find her quite amusing and he naturally began to relax a bit, back into his old, playful self he had been when he was young. Back before he was burdened with the worry of his powers.
We have reached our destination, thank-you for traveling with the Shali express. Finally catching sight of the water, he sighed happily and followed her to the edge of the small pool. Smile on his lips, he moved to the edge of the water before lowering himself down so he could lap up a long drink of water. When he'd drank his fill, he laid down on his side and stretched out a bit before glancing over at her. "Thank you, that was just what I needed." Smile never left his face as he closed his eyes for a moment before pushing himself upright so his fore legs held up his upper body. "I don't know why the other cats whine about canines so much. You aren't mangy, vicious or uncivilized." He teased, playful grin on his lips.
In response to Reeves’ words and actions, Shali took a friendly, yet nonchalant attitude. It had not been very hard for her to do anything up to this point really. She just had to tell him what she knew, and walk a few paces in the right direction. No biggie. Her duties as a beta had been much more extreme than that, several times over. She loved her job and rank, most definitely. It enabled her to do things she had never dreamed of before. Shali never thought that she would make it this far in her entire lifetime. However, there were times when her pack mates annoyed the snot out of her, making it somewhat difficult. That was not the case here though, thankfully. The laughter that came from the lion was getting to be contagious the more Shali heard it.
Shali’s shoulder lifted up and down once, and gave a nod of her own when Reeves spoke of her helping him. With that movement, the leather strap that held her teal soul stone in place decided to slither down her arm again. Without thinking, the wolf absentmindedly pulled it back up to its normal spot with her teeth. It had become a force of habit for her to do that now, as she’d done it since she was a pup.‘I really should get this thing tightened one day,’ Shali thought for the billionth time, yet she never did. Old habits die hard apparently.
Shali’s gray eyes narrowed slightly when she heard what the felines had said about her species. Mangy? Uncivilized? Really? Shali could understand the vicious part, but was slightly unsettled for a moment anyways. Luckily she picked up on the male’s teasing tone, and was able to let it roll off her shoulders a bit. Had it been any other circumstance, and had Reeves not gotten on her good side from the get go, the reaction might have been different. Things could have taken a turn for the worst. It did not happen that way though. But that did not mean that Reeves was going to get away with it unscathed quite yet.
“Perhaps you are not pompous, pansy poof balls like we thought either,” the she-wolf said, gently stroking her chin with a paw. As she did so, a sly grin crossed her own features and she just waited for his reaction in anticipation.

Reeves glanced over at Shali as the two traveled to the pool of water. He was very glad he'd happened to run into one of the canines that didn't have a problem with felines. He knew that most felines and canines didn't get along. The two species were similar and yet not similar as well. Just enough to get on each others' nerves. The older generations were the ones who seemed the most bothered by the other species but he figured that was because they had the deep rooted hatred for each other than younger generations didn't have as much these days. The canines and felines had to work together in order to survive in peace which meant that they had to come to an understanding if they wanted to survive.
Perhaps you are not pompous, pansy poof balls like we thought either, Her words made his brows raise a bit but an amused smile was still on his face as he watched her thoughtfully, hoping that he hadn't actually offended her with his playful comment. Her teasing tone and smirk made him realize that she was joking with him as well and he shrugged a bit in reply. "I dunno, given the right humidity my fur will puff up like a fluffy cub's." He answered, playful smile still on his face as he relished in the feeling of joking around with someone like he use to.
Shali couldn’t help but to bust out laughing at Reeves. It was one of those full body shaking, deep belly laughs too. It was the kind of laugh that tightens ones abs and, for some, brings tears to their eyes. Shali could totally visualize the male lion puffed up like a fuzzy ball, strands of mane going this way, that way, and the other way. Certainly that would be a sight to see. Luckily, wolves that the she-wolf came into contact with didn’t have to deal with that particular problem. Humidity did not really seem to have the same effect on her. Sure, when she went in water, Shali’s fur got all spikey and wet. It plastered to her body like crazy, making her look like a large strange creature of sorts. The female potentially could be a sight for sore eyes then. She wasn’t about to tell Reeves that however. He’d just given her more ammunition to make fun of him instead. The play battle of words was about to get much worse in the best ways possible.
“Well, now isn’t that interesting. I’d pay money to see that I think,” Shali almost purred. She stroked her chin methodically before she stood up to her paws, and a sneaky look came on her features. It was blatantly obvious what she was going to do at this point, but it was all part of the fun. “What about water? Does that have the same effect as humidity? Shall we find out?” Shali dipped a paw in the water, and flung it towards Reeves. The female didn’t quite know if her aim was on, but it was worth a try. A good game of water tag would be fun, she figured. Thereafter she splashed both paws in the water playing around.

Shali's laughter was contagious and Reeves soon found himself laughing along with her at his own joke. It was nice to be able to relax and just joke around with someone else. He'd been on his own for quite some time now and while he had come across a fair amount of other creatures, none of them ever stayed long. He knew that he would part ways with Shali soon as well but he pushed that thought away as he enjoyed the amusing time they were having right now. Well, now isn’t that interesting. I’d pay money to see that I think, Reeves wrinkled his nose before shaking his head. "I dunno.. it's not a pretty site. Fur and stuff sticking out everywhere and stuff." He replied, making a playful yet disgusted look at the thought of his sticky, humidity ridden fur.
What about water? Does that have the same effect as humidity? Shall we find out? Reeves raised a brow at her when she spoke, knowing she was up to something but he wasn't quite sure what it was just yet. It wasn't long before he found out. Her paw splashed water at his face and he sputtered a bit in surprise, jumping to his paws before trying to wipe the water out of his face. Not paying attention to where he was going, he soon found himself slipping and before long he had tumbled into the pool of water, soaking himself completely before he rose to his paws, the water coming up to his chest when he was standing.
"Guess we found out." He answered with a chuckle before shaking the water from his coat and spraying her in the process. Once he was done shaking, he could feel parts of his pelt sticking to him while other parts were sticking up from his shaking. No doubt a sight to see.

Shali was certainly amused by this point. That was the only adjective to describe her feelings, amused. Her mouth had been turned up in a smiling position for a while now, and it continued to stay that way still. The wolf remembered back a long time ago when her grandmother was still around. She said that if Shali kept making funny faces and the like her face would get stuck like that. Shali would not mind having her face frozen into a permanent smile. That might freak out others, but, honestly, she really would not mind.
On top of the seemingly endless smiling, her laughter had not stopped either. The female was having a delightful time, much more so than her other scouting ventures. Who knew that this lion would be a source of happiness? Sure, Shali knew that she had important beta things to be tending to, but this was more fun. If the alphas had anything to say to her about it, she would take it all in stride. It would all be worth a few moments of fun. Nobody said that this job entailed being melancholy all the time. Her being the beta of the pack did not require solemnity 24/7. If that were the case, she would have remained a pack member for as long as bloody possible.
As Reeves took a tumble into the water and got soaked, the she-wolf could do nothing but gasp for air and shake her head. Occasionally, a few pig-like snorts wormed their way in too. Silly man. “Indeed we did, that’s a good look for you,”Shali said in agreement. As she was sprayed with water droplets, a small screech of surprise was emitted. She too fluffed up a bit, but not nearly as much as Reeves. Shali tended to her fur and set her sights on the lion. She walked towards him and attempted to smooth out some of his disheveled fur. She then sat down and spoke again. “So…do you really have to go on this journey alone? It seems like it would get lonely after a while.”

Reeves could feel the fur on his belly and legs floating in the water and he was half tempted to remain in the water because then at least his fur wouldn't stick to him like glue. But sadly he knew that wasn't the best idea so with some effort, he pulled himself out onto the bank of the pool, the water churning with mud now that his tumble had mixed it up.
Once his large paws were on dry land again, Reeves shook his fur out once more, spraying Shali yet again. Indeed we did, that’s a good look for you. Her words made him laugh and he let an innocent smile spread across his face before he too was laughing again. Her snorts of amusement only made him chuckle more and he smiled before she came towards him and tried to help him get his fur to lay flat again. "Awww thanks!" He teased back, putting a paw under his chin as he batted his eyelashes and struck a pose, chunks of his short mane sticking up in all directions from his shaking.
Once their laughter had died down, Reeves went to work smoothing down some more of his mane and pelt, his pink tongue licking the water from it with ease. So…do you really have to go on this journey alone? It seems like it would get lonely after a while. His head lifted to look over at the she wolf when she spoke and a solemn look spread across his face before he looked down at his paws. "Alone is probably best. I don't want to accidentally hurt someone.. My abilities.. they are hard to control." He began before trailing off a bit. He knew his journey would get lonely and now that he'd been in the company of Shali and his mother and brother not long before that, he was really starting to dread being along again.
"I'm not looking forward to being alone but... there really isn't anyone who can just drop everything and come with me." He shrugged a bit, trying to make it seem like no big deal though now his mind was reeling with the lonely thoughts. Hopefully he would find the soul stone master quickly so he wouldn't have to be alone for long.

Water fights were definitely a source of good amusement to those willing to participate. A high pitched squeal came from Shali as she was splashed once more with water. She could only imagine walking back to the pack dens looking like she did and trying to give a full report. That would warrant some explanations, though it did not really matter to Shali honestly. She was having too much fun at that time to care. Him batting his eyelashes like that took it to a whole new level. “You’re a pretty boy, you know that?” Shali sated simply with a chuckle.
After all was said and done, Shali nodded a few times, just absorbing the information Reeves had told her. She could certainly empathize with Reeves a little bit here. Her story was slightly different in that the isolation was not directly self-inflicted, however there was separation there. The wolf felt like it was too late to turn back and find her family now. She had settled here and played an important role to the pack. Grabbing a suitcase and dipping out wasn’t an option now or possibly ever. That thought was a little disheartening admittedly, though somewhat comforting at the same time. The she-wolf would always have a place to stay amongst the Kyon should things continue the way that they were.
The memories that Shali had of her family were still with her, especially those with her brother Raxis. He had meant a lot to her through and through. What everyone actually looked like and sounded like were slowly fading as time went on however. The realization that they could disappear from her altogether had come around once or twice. Shali just had to force herself to remember and pull up the mental images that she could recall. Now that was a hard thing to do sometimes. She did not want Reeves to have to go through that. “But there doesn’t have to be accidents. You just have to trust that you’re stronger than your powers. I would come…I…I…mean if they did not need me here y-you know.”
