The Katharos Pools were technically reserved for the residents of the city, but Dantai saw no problem in him sneaking in to take a little dip. They were tucked into the edge of the jungle after all, and being that he was far from the evil sort that were banned from there, he didn't think his presence would be an issue. The lion emerged from the jungle confidently as if he totally belonged there, walking past a few cats that were scattered about minding their own business. He moved to an empty part of the water, sliding his heavy frame beneath the surface. Since leaving the city to live freely in the jungle his body had become a bit disheveled, his clean appearance marred with the presence of dirt and stray leaves. The relief that washed over him as the water did was incredible and a heavy, pleased sigh slipped from his lips as he ran his paws over his head. His light eyes closed, body relaxing for a moment as he relished the feeling of the cool, clean water before he went to work picking through his tangled mane.
Since meeting Nayva Aeron, Dantai had tried in vain to find his sister. Although he'd catch a whiff of her scent every now and then Kilani had evaded him, her smell vanishing as abruptly as it had appeared. It was frustrating, but he had confidence that he would find her in time. She couldn't hide forever, after all. He'd decided to take a break though, to not only wash himself after weeks of unsuitable water conditions but to journey to the Ektos Cavern. He was on a mission to learn more about his soul stone after all, and he was certain that visiting the cavern for the first time in his life would get on him on the right track.
First, however, he was going to enjoy every second of his time in the pools as he could. His clawed fingers worked through his thick mane slowly, pulling apart matts and tangles and flinging away the occasional twig. A sigh pressed through his teeth again; oh what he would give to have some of those fragrant oils they used in the city to perfume one's coat.
It had taken a bit of convincing in order to get her partner and the head guard to let her go to Katharos Pools without anyone else. She'd had a rough day patrolling the Agora due to running into a bunch of bastard kids who had given her shit for being too small to be a guard. It was a normal thing she faced but it still hurt deep down every time someone told her she shouldn't be a guard when all she wanted was to be a guard and follow in her father's paw steps. Either way, she'd offered to run a solo patrol over at the Katharos Pools so that she could be alone and have time to relax before she had to report back to the palace for night patrol assignments.
When she finally reached the pools, the calming sound of flowing water soothed her immediately. Pausing once she stepped out of the trees and her blue eyes finally landed on the pools, a deep breath escaped her chest. Eyes scanning the area, there weren't a lot of cats around and all of the cats that were there were calm and relaxing near or in the water as well.
The only cat that actually caught her attention was a male lion who looked familiar as if she'd seen him in Naxorus before but he looked far too disheveled to have been living in the city. Granted he could have been living a rough life in the lower class but her faint memory of him didn't group him with the lower class cats. Pondering for a moment, she wondered if maybe he was a jungler who was using the Katharos Pools when he wasn't suppose to.
Strolling towards the male, she took a couple steps into the water until it came up to her chest, closing her eyes briefly as the cool relief washed over her sore muscles. Finally opening her eyes, she glanced over at him casually, not even planning on making him leave, even if he was there illegally. "Not from the city, are you," she half asked, half told, her eyelids half closed before she turned back to the water, taking a few more steps in so that the water level covered her sore shoulders and hot back.

He'd gotten himself into more of a mess than he'd anticipated. It took him quite some time to work through his disheveled mane and to wash the dirt from his creamy coat, but once he finally did the big cat leaned back against the edge of the pool to relax. He sighed gently, soft eyes closing as he let his head fall back, shoulders shifting as he tried to roll some of the tension out of them. Days of traveling had tightened the muscles in his body, each one wound into painful knots. The cool caress of the water itself was enough to relax his tired body though, and he seemed to sink lower into the pool with each passing moment.
Suddenly there was a shift in the water, tiny ripples lapping against his skin as tiny paws broke through the placid surface. His eyes opened, though he did so slowly so as to not show the other cat his alarm. He recognized her though, her body familiar despite the fact that he did not know her name. A guard. His body tightened, muscles coiling in the anticipation of a fight. He was well aware of the fact that jungle cats weren't allowed in the pools, and though she was small she had an arsenal of guards on her side that could make him leave if they pleased. He watched her carefully, eyes wary of her movements as she slid into the water and closed her eyes. Her body visibly relaxed and he began to as well, as she seemed to have no intentions of causing a fuss today. Her eyes finally opened and she swung her head toward him, watching him with an impassive gaze. Not from the city, are you?
He could've lied, but something about her tone told him she already knew. It was her job to know the city, and there was no doubt she'd seen him before and perhaps even noticed his absence when he decided to leave. He relaxed though, breathing out a sigh and leaning back against the side of the pool again. "No, I'm not. And you're from the guard, I presume?"
To be fair, Talia was normally a nice cat. As long as you didn't catch her when she was in one of her cranky moods, most likely spurred by other guards poking fun at her size again. Other than those cranky days, she was pretty easy to get along with. She'd give you a chance to right your wrong and then if you chose not to, she'd take action. And while normally, jungle cats weren't allowed to use the Katharos pools since they were a part of the city, this male lion seemed to be needing the relaxation just as much as she did. That and the fact that he wasn't bothering anyone or being a nuisance meant she wasn't going to waste her time trying to get him to leave. She was alone today anyways so physically, she wouldn't be able to get him to leave even if she wanted to.
Standing in the water as well, she could feel the cool stone that the humans had used to create these pools. The lack of dirt and mud on the bottom meant that the water was almost always clear. Once she'd soaked in the water for a bit, she took a drink from the water's surface, knowing she could get cleaner water elsewhere but not caring too much.
A sigh came from the male once her words were spoken and she knew she was right about him. Naxorus wasn't so big yet that she wouldn't recognize someone she'd seen many times in the city and then none at all. That usually led her to believe that the cat had chosen the jungle life for awhile. It never lasted but she didn't blame them for wanting to explore. No, I'm not. And you're from the guard, I presume?
His voice made her eyes open a bit as she glanced over at him again. "I am. Though I'm sure it's hard to believe. Being the size of a squirrel and all." She replied, pointing out her size before he had the chance to. She had a tendency to do that, that way others wouldn't tip toe around saying it. She'd rather just have it out in the open and get it out of the way.

I am. Though I'm sure it's hard to believe. Being the size of a squirrel and all. The lion lifted his shoulders in a shrug, gaze falling away from her for a moment. His light eyes flicked across their surroundings, noting the cats that lay around them but seemed to be paying no mind. "Being small means you're quick, which can be just as useful in a fight as brute strength," he said, head turning slowly back to look at her. "I'm sure you're useful to the guard, just as much as anyone else." The corner of his lip twitched upward, creating a tiny smirk. "If nothing else, at least you have possessing an ounce of civility on them." She wasn't a pompous asshole like he knew some of the guards could be. Many would've tried to run him off by now, judging him solely on the dirt in his mane. They'd claim that because he lived in the jungle he had no right to bathe in the city pools because he was a danger; but just because he lived without law didn't mean he was a barbarian. It wasn't fair, truly, the discrimination that occurred just because he lived in a different section of the world now. He'd grown up in the city and in truth was just as much a part of it as he was the jungle.
He sighed as he lifted himself up a bit, dropping his paws beneath the water before running them over his head again. The cool, clean water was perfection against his warm fur. He could've lounged in the pool all day long, but he was sure another guard would show up eventually that would have a far different opinion about him than this minuscule cat. Although the solitary lion preferred not to owe thanks to anyone but himself, he felt like it was in order. He really had no business there, and yet this guard was letting him relax anyway. "I'm grateful, by the way, that you don't mind my being here. I've lived in the city my entire life and this is the thing I miss most," he said quietly, leaning back again. "My name is Dantai, by the way. Dantai Argyris."
Her eyes were on the water, watching as the ripples moved about and she could see her reflection in the water as well. Being small means you're quick, which can be just as useful in a fight as brute strength. Her light blue gaze lifted to look at him, surprise on her face as he spoke of her quickness in a fight. I'm sure you're useful to the guard, just as much as anyone else. She couldn't help but let a small smile start to raise the corners of her lips as she thought of the other guards, poking and making fun of her. His words gave her courage and hope. "Your words are kind. It means a lot to hear such things. Far more doubt me. It can begin to weigh on you." She confessed, smile still on her face as she glanced around them.
She took a few paces out of the deeper water and came to sit next to sit casually in the shallows. If nothing else, at least you have possessing an ounce of civility on them. A soft chuckle escaped her lips at the thought of the asshole guards she worked with. Not all of them were jerks but there were quite a few that let their power and position go to their head. They'd get anyone and everyone in trouble whenever they could. She shook her head a bit before looking back down into the water, her paws drawing swirls and circles on the surface.
I'm grateful, by the way, that you don't mind my being here. I've lived in the city my entire life and this is the thing I miss most. Looking back up at him when he thanked her, she dipped her head respectfully. "You're not causin' any trouble so no sense to be chasin' you off." She replied, giving a small shrug as if letting him break the law was no big deal. My name is Dantai, by the way. Dantai Argyris. Smiling at his introduction, she dipped her head as she spoke her own name. "Talia Charo."

Your words are kind. It means a lot to hear such things. Far more doubt me. It can begin to weigh on you. He nodded, expression pensive as he stared down at the motion in the water. She was small, but like he said size wasn't everything. Quick feet and cunning were desirable traits and really, in their world with the power they could harness from their stones, they were limitless. She could be a deadly force with the strength of an advanced soul stone on her side. "Everyone has strength and potential, though the nature of their strength is unique. I'm size and brawn, you're agility and speed," he said with a shrug. His head swung to the side, a trace of humor tugging at his lips. "Most doubt me as well. Just because I prefer to live on my own in the jungle I must be some brutish barbarian," he looked away, smirk pulling up as he thought of the jungler he'd met that had pegged him as a city-goer just based on his looks. "I'm not allowed to take pride in my appearance or enjoy being clean."
You're not causin' any trouble so no sense to be chasin you off. He chuckled softly at her disregard, smiling at the casual way in which she shrugged her shoulders. "Unfortunately for me, not everyone feels that way," he replied, though he smiled as she looked back at him. Talia Charo."It's nice to meet you," he replied cordially before shifting his gaze and looked back out in front of them.
He sighed gently before his light eyes finally swung back in her direction, falling on her with half-lidded nonchalanace. "How long have you been a part of the guard? Not that I discount you for your size, but most smaller animals wouldn't choose that as a profession."
Everyone has strength and potential, though the nature of their strength is unique. I'm size and brawn, you're agility and speed. She smiled and sighed a bit as she relished the feel of the cool water while the warm air brushed through her fur that wasn't underwater. Most doubt me as well. Just because I prefer to live on my own in the jungle I must be some brutish barbarian. I'm not allowed to take pride in my appearance or enjoy being clean. An actual laugh slipped past Talia's lips at his words and his amused smirk that was no on his face. She nodded in agreement with his words. "City goers like to think of themselves as being so much more sophisticated and advanced than those that choose the simple jungle life." She huffed, shaking her head and rolling her eyes at the stuck up cats that lived in the city. She had even considered living in the jungle for a bit but had decided against it. Not because being a straight jungler was to be frowned upon or anything. She'd stayed in the city because she had wanted to make her father proud and become a guard, especially when her brother had declared he wasn't going to follow in the family business.
Unfortunately for me, not everyone feels that way. A quick chuckle slipped out of her mouth at his words and she nodded, raising her brows a bit in agreement. "Though I doubt I'd be able to chase you off anyways. You've got just a small size advantage over me." She teased with a playful smirk. Talia glanced out over the water as well though dipped her head when he said it was nice to meet her. Her attention shifted back to him when he spoke again. How long have you been a part of the guard? Not that I discount you for your size, but most smaller animals wouldn't choose that as a profession.
She smiled, knowing now that he wasn't one of those nay sayers and was most likely just curious. "I've been a guard for a year or two now. I joined up because my father use to be a guard and a damn good one. He wanted my brother to take his place in the guard when he retired but my brother is a free spirit, didn't want to be tied down in a job. So I joined up. I'll be honest though, I wouldn't be able to do it if it wasn't for my partner. He's a Siberian tiger and is basically my muscle." She explained, smiling at the thought of her laid back and yet fierce when needed partner.
"What about you? What are you doing out in the jungle when you lived in the city your whole life?" She questioned, pulling herself out of the water and shaking out her coat before licking a few sticking up pieces flat again as she awaited his response.

City goers like to think of themselves as being so much more sophisticated and advanced than those that choose the simple jungle life. The lion humphed as he rolled his eyes, looking to the side. "Isn't that the truth," he muttered, almost bitterly. He knew how his family had felt about his decision; how much they looked down on him for it. He'd left abruptly, giving no goodbyes and leaving into the night without looking back. He assumed they'd figured where he'd gone, and the fact that they'd never understand his motivations was frustrating.
Though I doubt I'd be able to chase you off anyways. You've got just a small size advantage over me. He lifted a brow as he looked back at her, smirk pressing against his lips as he looked at her briefly then back out ahead of him. "Ahh, I'd go if you wanted me to. I'm not looking to hurt anyone," he replied easily.
I've been a guard for a year or two now. I joined up because my father used to be a guard and a damn good one. He wanted my brother to take his place in the guard when he retired but my brother is a free spirit, didn't want to be tied down in a job. So I joined up. I'll be honest though, I wouldn't be able to do it if it wasn't for my partner. He's a Siberian tiger and is basically my muscle. A fuzzy, cream colored ear twitched toward her, listening intently to her words even though his half lidded gaze was directed elsewhere. He nodded gently as she spoke, showing he was listening and agreeing quietly. "I suppose I'm similar in that. I didn't like the idea of living the same job, day in and day out.
What about you? What are you doing out in the jungle when you lived in the city your whole life? He moved slowly around in the water, turning so that he could watch her as she moved out and began to groom herself. Dantai was sure his baths in the pools would be few and far between, so he stayed in the water, drinking up every second he could. He leaned against the side of the pool, propping himself up with one elbow swung over the side of the stone barrier. "I'm not a fan of crowds; I don't like how cramped the city is. I'd rather be on my own, without all of the fuss," he paused as if in thought, before looking back to her with a shrug. "I guess I'm a light seeker too. I'm interested in healing, but I wasn't sure where to start. I figured I'd find answers in the jungle."
Ahh, I'd go if you wanted me to. I'm not looking to hurt anyone. She had her own playful little smirk on her face as she glanced over at him when he replied. "As if you could hurt me." She answered teasingly, lifting her chin proudly as if she were a dangerous warrior who could take him out with a swipe of her paw. She knew that of course wasn't true and obviously he knew that as well but it felt good to be able to joke with someone other than the guards she usually hung out with. Even then, she was commonly the root of all of the jokes.
I suppose I'm similar in that. I didn't like the idea of living the same job, day in and day out. She smiled as her ear turned towards him to catch his reply. She nodded a bit, that sounded like her brother alright. I'm not a fan of crowds; I don't like how cramped the city is. I'd rather be on my own, without all of the fuss."The jungle is a good place to go to get away, that's for sure. Even living in the city, I tend to visit the jungle at times when I just wanna get away." She agreed, her tongue pausing in it's grooming as she spoke before going back to smoothing out the fur on her chest.
Lifting her gaze to land on him as he remained in the water, she smiled a bit. I guess I'm a light seeker too. I'm interested in healing, but I wasn't sure where to start. I figured I'd find answers in the jungle."Ya know, if healing is what you're interested in you should really check out Lucis Temple. I hear that's what Seda and her mother, the head healer, Larue, focus on." She offered, letting him do what he wished with the piece of information.

As if you could hurt me? A brow quirked as his head instantly turned to face her, a playful smirk playing on his lips. "Is that a challenge?" he asked, his voice light and humorous despite the low, playful growl that rumbled in the back of his throat. He flexed his toes, long claws extending and scraping eagerly against the hard rock of the pool's edge. It was strange for him, he realized, to be so at ease around this cat he knew so little about. He was actually enjoying himself, enjoying conversation. There was something about the spunky little female that he liked though, something that forced him to loosen his guard and let his words flow freely. It was almost ironic then, that the first cat he'd felt any sort of friendly connection with was one that he could not befriend. They were enemies because of the location of their homes alone; she could be nice and friendly here, where no other city eyes were upon them, but were they to be joined by other company, their fun would be cut short. He couldn't be around her while she was with the rest of the guard or within the city, even for a brief chat. He pressed out a sigh as he realized that it was highly likely that he'd never see the tiny feline again.
The jungle is a good place to go to get away, that's for sure. Even living in the city, I tend to visit the jungle at times when I just wanna get away? His ears twitched and his brows raised a fraction in surprise. "Really? Hmm, perhaps we can see each other again some day then; it's not often that I find cats that I can tolerate conversation with," he said as he looked away from her, gaze fixed on the jungle in the distance as if he were thinking.
Ya know, if healing is what you're interested in you should realy check out Lucis Temple. I hear that's what Seda and her mother, the head healer, Larue, focus on. A hum pressed against the back of his teeth as he nodded, thickly maned head bobbing back toward her, a smile tugging at the edges of his lips. "I appreciate the tip. I'd like to work on the level of my stone before I go making any specific training plans, but I'll have to go check it out later."
A soft groan rumbled in his throat as he pulled himself back onto all four paws, body shifting as he stretched one muscle then the next. Despite how much he was enjoying the pools that day was waning and the rumble in his belly begged him to return to the jungle. He pulled himself up onto the side of the pool next to Talia, water streaming from his lightly pelted body as he dropped his blue gaze down to her. "Does the guard patrol the pools often?"
Is that a challenge? A wicked little grin spread across Talia's face at his words. "You bet it is! The question remains, will you accept it.." She trailed off, raising her brows with a teasing smile. She had to admit that she was enjoying herself just chatting with this lion. Not only because he was one of the few who didn't look down on her because of her small size. She climbed to her paws after speaking and hopped around a bit, body lowered to the ground as if she were ready to attack. She knew that a Naxorus guard shouldn't be pouncing around like a cub but she couldn't help it. It wasn't often that she got to let loose and just enjoy the company of another.
Her words seemed to have caught his interest about how she visited the jungle frequently to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. That was one thing she loved about Naxorus, citizens could still enjoy the jungle when they wanted. Really? Hmm, perhaps we can see each other again some day then; it's not often that I find cats that I can tolerate conversation with. She couldn't help but snort a bit in laughter at his strangely worded compliment. "Gee thanks, you're not too terribly awful to tolerate either." She teased, giving him a playful smack on the shoulder though he probably hadn't even felt it through his fur.
I appreciate the tip. I'd like to work on the level of my stone before I go making any specific training plans, but I'll have to go check it out later."Now I'm not an expert but I hear they can help you out with that too. Just food for thought." She added, shrugging a bit before shaking out her now drying fur. Does the guard patrol the pools often? Talia thought for a moment as she tried to picture the guard schedule in her head. "Normally guards come by when the sun comes up, around lunch time and then again when the sun sets." She answered, knowing that he was probably asking so he'd know what times would be safe for him to come without getting into trouble.

You bet it is! The question remains, will you accept it? He chuckled softly under his breath before his lips curled into a smirk and he flashed her a toothy, wicked grin. "But of course. I'll have to test out that speed of yours sometime when you're in the jungle..." he trailed off and glanced about, eyes landing on the few stranglers that still hung in the pools. He leaned closer conspiratorially, voice but a whisper. "That way there won't be any witnesses when I kill you and toss you into the river like the wicked jungler I am." He winked as he pulled away, evil stare cracking into a more playful one to assure the cat that he was indeed, completely joking.
He was a strange one, and his compliments were few and far between. As strange as it may have sounded it was sincere; he did like the little ocelot. Gee thanks, you're not too terribly awful to tolerate either. He grinned and moved just slightly as she smacked him, pretending the assault had affected him more than it had. He laughed again, the sound light and deep and so genuine it was surprising. Who knew the stiff lion could take a joke?
Now i'm not an expert but I hear they can help you out with that too. Just food for thought. He nodded, not saying anything as he looked away. Truth was that the proud lion felt a bit insecure about the fact that his soul stone still shined its original, dark blue color. He wasn't a child and honestly felt like he should've advanced more than he had by this point in his life. It was almost embarrassing to be so inexperienced, when emotionally he felt so old and strong. He seemed to be on the right track though. Just since moving to the jungle he'd felt his body change as the power that resided in his soul stone began to pour out into his body. He felt stronger, healthier, than ever before.
Normally guards come by when the sun comes up, around lunch time and then again when the sun sets. His gaze shifted to the horizon, to the daylight as it began to tick away. "I suppose that means I should take my leave soon," he said, pausing as he turned his head back to face her. His eyes lingered intently on her for a moment. "Thank you. It means a lot."
