FALL - The temperature is starting to fall a bit as it starts to cool off. The sun isn't as hot and the relief from the heat is much needed.

The day was off to a slow, monotonous start for Contrabelle.
She'd woken up on her own time, which was always a good thing, but since then not a single beast had attacked her nor prey-thing crossed her path nor passerby wandered under her branch, where she hung like a limp rag doll. The sun was nice on her back but the humid air of the Jungle killed the illusion of comfort, made everything sticky and thick and hard to breathe. She wanted to go higher in her tree, but wasn't look forward to keeping birds and monkeys for company. She doubted she'd run into any Margays, and even if she did, she wasn't looking forward to being criticized for her climbing skills. Like those tree-elitists could scale a mountain, .
She felt that old urge to keep moving stir within her belly, flooding up her chest and making her lightheaded. She couldn't stay here much longer; her heart couldn't take it. She missed the cold, harsh wind and the relentless light and the layer of snow and dirt beneath her paws. She yearned for the horizon, though she knew she'd never meet it. She never wanted to slow down, and she was tired of the damp wood under her paws. She wanted something to happen.
When she saw something black and powerful that smelled distinctly like a female slink along the darker growths of the forest floor, she licked her chops with interest and pulled herself into a crouching position. Then she leaped down to a lower branch to purr, hoping to make the other aware of her presence.
Nayva Aeron -- 270-ish wc -- i struggled with the title and contra's being angsty
Post by Nayva Aeron on Jul 15, 2015 16:29:43 GMT -5
The sticky heat that always seemed to cling to the city was the worst. She could feel her black pelt only magnifying the intensity of the sun's rays. With a groan, she'd finally decided that the jungle was gonna be the place to be today. Strolling through the buildings that were home to the city's occupants, Nayva made her way for the thick trees. She knew that the sun would still be able to penetrate part of the way but the leaves would do wonders.
Soon the houses became more sparse and the trees were becoming thicker as she moved further from the hustle and bustle of the city. It wasn't long until the city was far enough behind her that she couldn't hear the drawl of cats talking anymore.
Her large paws carried her deep into the cover of the trees until she finally felt the relief from the sun start to sink in as she cooled off. She was still panting a bit but nothing compared to before. She didn't really know where she was going as she kept walking. And it wasn't until she heard a purr from above that she paused and glanced upward.
There she saw a small mountain cat perched on a low branch just above Nayva's head. Raising a brow, she chuckled a bit, in a much better mood now than she had been before when her pelt had felt like it was on fire. "The trees sure are the place to be in this weather, hmm?" She spoke, stopping and climbing up onto a low branch near the small feline before stretching out on it and enjoying the cooler breeze as it blew against her belly fur.
She didn't quite hear the question that she was asked over the sight of the large pantheress stretching out on the tree branch below her, black as death and sleek as water. Admiring the way the other feline's fur arched with her craning spine and wrinkled in the wind like grass, she responded somewhat absent-mindedly, "It certainly is."
She shook her head slightly to clear away all unwanted thoughts and smiled at the other like the cat that ate the canary.
"I don't suppose you came from the city?" She purred.
She had no way of knowing that, honestly, aside from the smell of many cats that the other had about her. But it was a conversation starter, and Contrabelle was in desperate need of a conversation. Maybe the other would even be receptive to her flirting.
She stretched her back similarly and hopped down one branch lower to meet the larger cat eye to eye. She was bigger and more powerful looking closer up, with fur that was mottled blue. She smelled like negative, vibrant energy.

Once Nayva had situated herself on her own branch, she let out a sigh. The breeze up in the trees was much nicer than the soft wisps of air that reached her on the ground. Her pitch black coat really needed all the help it could get if she was ever going to cool off enough to actually be somewhat comfortable. It certainly is. The answer that came from the other feline was simple enough and a small smile remained on Nayva's lips as she closed her eyes a bit, letting the sweet breeze brush through her sticky fur.
I don't suppose you came from the city? The question made Nayva's eyes open into slits as she glanced over at the smaller cat who soon came down to a lower branch so that she could be on the same level as Nayva. "I am, indeed." She replied, not sure if the feline was just trying to be polite or if a conversation was wanted. Either way Nayva was fine with the company so long as this new company didn't turn out to be a nuisance.
It seemed as if a conversation was in order as introductions were spoken, first by the small cat and then by herself. I'm Contrabelle, the Contrary. 'N you, love? A smirk was on Nayva's face as she lifted her head from her branch and crossed her paws over the other. Icy blue gaze shifting to look at the feline, she licked her chops before replying. "Nayva Aeron, the criminal." An amused look was on her face as she added on a small title of her own. She wasn't sure if it would send the other she cat into a huff of disbelief or not but there was only one way to find out. Either way it would be amusing to see her reaction.
The wind rustled her shaggy pelt and she felt that big grin work its way back onto her face. So the Jaguar was a criminal from Naxorus? She couldn't say she was expecting it, but she certainly wasn't opposed to it. She'd had her fair share of escapades in the past, though not much more than petty thefts and inconveniences, and she enjoyed causing mayhem for others. It warmed her soul. Maybe there could be more to this little chat than an off-hand attempt at flirting?
"Ohhh," She tittered and peered into the amused eyes of her new-found aquantaince. "Beautiful and bad, eh?"
Contrabelle mimicked the other feline, settling down on the branch across from her and letting one foreleg hang limply off the side.
"So then, what's a city criminal like you doing here? I would've thought you'da have more--uh, opportunities where all the people are. On lunchbreak? If I were you, I'd take a trip to the path that-a-ways," She flicked the tip of her tail towards a trampled path to their left, the rest of her body languid and motionless and her eyes glinting with wicked humor. "That's where all the bumbling travelers come through. Most of them don't know their tails from a hole in the ground, so, similarly, most of them don't think to watch their pockets in a place like this. They, uh, 'drop' a lot of things. You might be able to take up a collection."
"One time, there was this guy I knew, who distracted some naive little fellow into thinking he was one of those hobo solicitors--you know the ones, yeah? With the crap paraphernalia they always try to vend off to you?--well, he was so busy trying to turn down my buddy in some trite polite way that he didn't notice his bags were missing until said buddy was far out of sight."
"Anyways, if you were looking for trouble, you're in the wrong place. Just shade and friendly company. Er--very friendly." She winked at the other. "Interpret that at will, love."

Ohhh, beautiful and bad, eh? Nayva's smirk grew a bit at Contrabelle's words and she gave a small shrug as if it was no big deal to be a wanted criminal in the largest city of cats in Vikos Jungle. The other she cat followed suit with her and got comfortable on her branch while Nayva gave a stretch as well, letting a hind leg dangle off the branch while her front paws remained on top of the branch.
So then, what's a city criminal like you doing here? I would've thought you'da have more--uh, opportunities where all the people are. On lunchbreak? If I were you, I'd take a trip to the path that-a-ways. That's where all the bumbling travelers come through. Most of them don't know their tails from a hole in the ground, so, similarly, most of them don't think to watch their pockets in a place like this. They, uh, 'drop' a lot of things. You might be able to take up a collection. It was safe to say that this new friend Nayva seemed to have made was very talkative. For the time being that was fine with her, just as long as she didn't have to talk as much as the other she cat was.
"A lunch break is a good way to put it. Stealing and petty theft aren't my main focuses of business though so other cats aren't always needed for my crimes to be committed." She explained, her jaws stretching wide in a yawn that exposed her ivory fangs. Nayva blinked lazily as she listened to the tale this she cat was reciting. One time, there was this guy I knew, who distracted some naive little fellow into thinking he was one of those hobo solicitors--you know the ones, yeah? With the crap paraphernalia they always try to vend off to you?--well, he was so busy trying to turn down my buddy in some trite polite way that he didn't notice his bags were missing until said buddy was far out of sight.
When the story drew to an end, Nayva glanced over at the feline as she dropped a front leg off the branch. Anyways, if you were looking for trouble, you're in the wrong place. Just shade and friendly company. Er--very friendly. She couldn't help but chuckle in reply to Contrabelle's words. "Shade is my main desire right now. The company is just a bonus." She replied, her usual sly smirk spread across her face before she laid her head down on her paw, her eyes closing a bit
Hearing that Nayva was just looking to escape the city heat, Contrabelle felt a little disappointed. And here she was hoping that mischief had found its way to her--some days she struggled between lazing about and looking for trouble, and it was probably the most common decision she faced in her life; whether she wanted to sleep or cause problems. It was nice when trouble came to her door rather than the other way around.
Well, at least the larger feline was shrugging off Contra's advances entirely. It was something of a past-time of hers , and if worse came to worse and there was nothing escapade-wise that Nayva could offer her, there was still the remaining challenge in getting Nayva to react to her with something more than a chuckle or a shrug.
"So then, if petty theft is beneath you," She sniffed as if offended, somewhat jokingly, "--or, you said--"unneeded"--what's on level, might I ask? Trades, snuffing?"
Contrabelle wasn't really thinking about what she was saying or who she was talking to, so curiosity got the best of her. If it was the first, this was a tycoon she was dealing with. The second, a killer. Anything else, and she wasn't sure how she'd feel about that. While the strange things that could be overheard in this jungle were interesting, they simultaneously frightened her, something that not much in this world could boast. It was thrilling.
"Not many know these brambles and trees well enough to come down for simple shade, unless they're restless at heart or incredibly brave and not-so-incredibly smart. It's certainly a good place to get things done out of the public's eye.
"You're one of the more fascinating things that's crept under my tree today, I'll have to admit."
Nayva Aeron -- 240-ish -- my muse was a little low, apologies
Post by Nayva Aeron on Jul 17, 2015 0:28:11 GMT -5
Nayva could tell that her words weren't exactly what the smaller she cat had wanted to hear and she did feel a little bad about not being able to contribute some form of entertainment to the little feline. Since it appeared that Contrabelle was far from amused by being out here all alone. At least Nayva's company seemed to have lifted her spirits a bit. So then, if petty theft is beneath you, --or, you said--"unneeded"--what's on level, might I ask? Trades, snuffing? A soft rumbling purr of amusement slipped from Nayva's jaws and she sat up a bit, shifting her position so she could better see the mountain cat. "My work is more along the lines of spying, drugs. murder and conspiracy." She explained, a wicked grin on her face as she lifted her chin a bit with pride and crossed her front paws once more.
Not many know these brambles and trees well enough to come down for simple shade, unless they're restless at heart or incredibly brave and not-so-incredibly smart. It's certainly a good place to get things done out of the public's eye.
You're one of the more fascinating things that's crept under my tree today, I'll have to admit. The next words Contrabelle spoke made Nayva straighten a bit with interest. So the she cat knew these jungles well? She must have since she knew which path the travelers came in on and which way Nayva had come from. Curiousity and plots were beginning to run wild in her mind as she tilted her head to the side a bit with interest. "Are you from the city, Contrabelle?" She asked, curious as to know more about this feline that could possibly assist her in her endeavours. After all, Nayva was always looking to make a new ally.
Spying, drugs, and conspiracy was all well and good with her, but she involuntarily stiffened at 'murder'. Still, she smiled back and attempted to relax. That was none of her business, and as long as she didn't have to witness anything 'along those lines' the other could do as she pleased. On what grounds did Contrabelle have room to judge, anyways? Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
"Spying and drugs and murder? Well, killing's a little much for me, but I'm not adverse to the first two. All too much work in my opinion, anyways." She thought it would be better to explain her reaction, rather than risk losing what trust she might have gained in the other.
Then Nayva asked what Contrabelle deemed a very stupid question. There was a beat of silence before Contrabelle sputtered out of control.
"Baha-ah! Ah, heh! I'm sorry, it's just that...you thought that--ha!
"No, no, I've lived here for as long as I can remember, love. Ah...heh, no. I don't think I've ever spent more than a few hours at a time in Naxorus--well, when you live like I do, the smell gets you stares. I don't think the locals appreciate my presence, let alone my actions. Shame, really."
As far as Contrabelle knew, she'd been born in a crate and hadn't bathed since. It wasn't her fault, honestly; no parents meant no one to teach her how to clean herself properly. And it looked like it was more effort than it was worth. And she wasn't dirty, she was earthy.
This made her look all the more suspicious on the few occasions she'd wandered into the city, looking for treated meat to add a variety to her diet of jungle rodents or something to occupy herself with. Maybe just to scale the buildings and feel closer to the sky. She'd gotten quite a few nasty looks and ultimately found it an ultimately pleasing experience. She'd caused problems for others by simply existing. At one point in time that might have stung, but by now she was old enough to laugh it off.

Nayva could tell right away that the last part of her job description wasn't exactly what the little mountain cat wanted to hear. Either way, she didn't flee or end the conversation there. She wasn't a fool to think that just because Nayva had killed before meant that she was going to kill anyone she crossed paths with. Spying and drugs and murder? Well, killing's a little much for me, but I'm not adverse to the first two. All too much work in my opinion, anyways. Nayva nodded slowly in understanding, uncrossing her paws and moving so that she was able to lean back against another branch directly behind her.
"Understandable. Killing isn't exactly a common thing I do. But it's on my resume if needed." She explained, stretching her front legs out along the branch in front of her, claws unsheathing and digging at the bark before retracting back into her paws.
Baha-ah! Ah, heh! I'm sorry, it's just that...you thought that--ha! No, no, I've lived here for as long as I can remember, love. Ah...heh, no. I don't think I've ever spent more than a few hours at a time in Naxorus--well, when you live like I do, the smell gets you stares. I don't think the locals appreciate my presence, let alone my actions. Shame, really. At Nayva's next question, the she cat burst into laughter. The black jaguar lifted a brow as she waited for the feline to get her bearings back. Explaining her outburst, Nayva nodded once. "Hard to tell with some. I live in the city and yet I spend almost as much time out in the jungle as I do within it's walls." Her reply was simple and to the point before she blinked slowly, her mind still pondering ideas.
Now knowing that Contrabelle didn't live in Naxorus, she wondered what role she could play in Nayva's grand plans. Silent for a moment, she pondered her options before lifting her gaze to meet the she cat once more. "Tell me, what do you know of Magnus, the king of Naxorus or Cadoc, his dark brother?" She figured testing out the she cat's base knowledge of the situation and plan's subjects would be a good place to start before she offered up a position.
The other went silent for a short while, and the mountain-dweller watched her stillness with interest. She evidently wasn't interested in Contrabelle's advances, and since there wasn't much reason to talk to her asides from quelling her boredom--but then again, the larger cat seemed to be thinking about her next words. Uncharacteristic, considering how openly she'd admitted to being a criminal not two minutes ago.
The question caught her off guard, and she stiffened. The tone had changed, after all, but to what? Contrabelle couldn't justify asking a stranger history trivia as mindless banter. Unless Nayva testing her? She wasn't sure how she felt about that.
She looked back into those blue eyes, daring the jaguar to argue, and summoned as much bitterness as she possessed. "I couldn't care less for some spoiled, grey-maned ninny playing Mother-May-I with others' lives, divvying up the earth like a cut of meat and barring the less fortunate from the more adequate cuts."
And then, having swallowed her distaste, she added, "I've overheard a few things. An old story about a lioness who passed on this land to one of her children, and, well...there were two others. I'm guessing the "dark brother" you mentioned was one of them?"

Nayva's blue eyes remained on the smaller she cat as she waited for her answer. When she did reply, it would be an understatement to say that Nayva was a bit disappointed but not quite surprised. I couldn't care less for some spoiled, grey-maned ninny playing Mother-May-I with others' lives, divvying up the earth like a cut of meat and barring the less fortunate from the more adequate cuts. Nayva simply shrugged and blew it off a bit as if the question she'd asked had been simply a random thought and a matter she was curious about herself. After all, she wasn't about to reveal secrets to one that wasn't interested in the quarrels of those living in these lands.
Nayva assumed that was the end of it and gave a small yawn before her ears twitched towards Contrabelle when she spoke once more, the irritation out of her voice a bit this time. I've overheard a few things. An old story about a lioness who passed on this land to one of her children, and, well...there were two others. I'm guessing the "dark brother" you mentioned was one of them? Sparking her interest a bit, she smirked a little and nodded. "He is indeed." Nayva answered but stopped there with the Cadoc conversation and instead switched gears completely. This feline was hard to read and she was still trying to figure out if the mountain cat could be of any help to her.
"So tell me, what is it you are interested in? Theft, gold, soul stone powers, hmm?" She asked, needing to know what drove this feline before she would be able to offer anything up in return for the she cat's help.
Stumped again. Nayva was most certainly testing her, but she failed to understand what the other was getting at. What did the history of Naxorus have to with her motivations? If this was regular job interview, (something Contrabelle doubted she'd ever be interested in), her motivations included sleeping, eating, and avoiding exertion.
But there was an edge to this conversation--digressions, inconsistencies--and it was curious. The king's "dark brother", the strange things that happened in a forest that this criminal visited often, all pieces of a puzzle that could be solved with a few words. If she abandoned the conversation now, she'd be losing more than a one-sided romance or work she wasn't interested in; there was the beautiful possibility of causing trouble.
"I enjoy causing trouble," she said after a while, and it was the most honest thing she'd said so far.
But what interested Nayva? Contrabelle had spent a good part of the conversation trying to level with the jaguar, but that was more to impress her than anything else. Did she really think rag-doll ol' Contra would be of any use in comparison to her own capabilities? And what could she possibly need her for?
Post by Nayva Aeron on Jul 28, 2015 23:37:56 GMT -5
Nayva hoped that Contrabelle would have some sort of motivation that she could use to her advantage. After all, she was growing quite bored of the city life and would much rather join Cadoc in the Dark Acheron if she could. However they needed someone who could sneak in and out of the city unnoticed and get information as well as start rumors and spread sabotage when the time was right.
I enjoy causing trouble. Nayva could tell that Contrabelle was confused as to where Nayva was going with all of this. After all, Nayva had jumped around quite a bit which wasn't like her. The female's response brought a smile to her face though. Causing trouble was exactly what they would need. Rising to her paws on her tree branch, she jumped the short distance to the next branch that put her right next to Contrabelle's branch.
"How would you like to cause trouble for the whole city as well as for those spoiled ninnies living there?" Nayva asked, smirk playing at her lips as she leaned closer to the female, a bit of a flirtatious tone to her voice as she spoke.
