Nayva usually liked to keep to the confines of the city of Naxorus but today she was feeling a bit adventurous. That and she wanted to try and catch something for lunch instead of paying the outrageous amount of gold every merchant wanted to charge for a lousy piece of meat. She had no trouble catching her own food but lots of the plump and spoiled cats of Naxorous forgot they were cats. Cats that could catch their own food if they just shed a few points and got off their lazy rumps. Either way, Nayva wasn't as rich or fool hearted as those felines.
Stretching her legs sounded nice as well and as her large black paws carried her out of the city, she glanced over her shoulder as the hustle and bustle of the Agora faded behind her. Weaving down the streets that were lined with houses, Nayva strolled through like she owned the place, daring anyone to tell her otherwise. She always had that deadly air about her that made others steer clear when they saw her coming. And for good reason too.
Once she had reached the edge of the city where the middle and lower class houses seemed to become farther and father apart, the jungle's open mouth laying waiting just head of her. Sly smirk lifted the corners of her mouth as she cleared a thick tree root and then allowed the wilderness of the jungle to surround her. Every time she came to the jungle she loved it and there were times that she wondered why she didn't stay out here all the time. But she would never be able to give up the deep criminal roots that had taken residence inside her ever since that fateful day back in the lower class of Naxorus when her mother had been taken from her. it was then she learned never to trust another soul and love and kindness would get you nowhere.
The sound of birds made her rounded ears swivel, searching for the source of the sound and hopefully what would be her lunch. Finally spotting a nest of baby birds, the mother swooped down and came to rest on the branch beside them, feeding her babies before taking off to find more food for them. "How precious." Nayva purred though her tone was far from loving. A weak cat would go after the babies, easy prey that required little work since they couldn't run or fly to get away. But Nayva wanted a challenge.
Scaling the tree the nest was in with a deadly kind of grace, Nayva climbed a branch or two higher than the one the baby birds sat perched on. Lowering her body and bunching her muscles underneath her, she sat and waited for the mother to come back to her chicks. Then she would strike the mother right out of the air and have herself a delicious lunch.

"Hello there, bird! Beautiful morning, isn't it?" Kilani sprang up from the ground and grabbed a hold of a low-hanging branch, dangling precariously from her front paws. A toucan was seated on the branch and jumped in surprised when the lion appeared suddenly at his side. "Uh, yeah. It's fine." Skeptical and afraid for his life, the bird took flight immediately after answering her. The pale lion 'humphed' and then giggled, swinging for a moment longer before dropping back down to the earth. Kilani loved birds. She envied them for their ability to fly and see the world from above the tallest trees. They were the one animal she would never eat.
Her paws hit the earth with a thud and she flicked her tail over the top of her back. With a grin on her face and a bounce in her step, she wandered deeper into the jungle. The sunlight filtered through the tops of the trees and splashed on the ground in little golden puddles. There were calls of birds in the distance and a whisper in the leaves as the breeze rolled through. She hummed quietly to herself as she traveled, batting idly at leaves and vines that stuck out in her path. It's so gorgeous here. She paused and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and sighing as the sunlight warmed her back and the breeze tickled her ears.
"Where are all the caterpillars?" A small, shrill voice met Kilani's ears and her eyes snapped open. A bird was hopping around on the ground a few yards away. The lion tilted her head and watched for a moment. "I think I saw a rotten log over there," she gestured with her paw. "It might have some?" She offered the bird a friendly smile. "Oh, thank you!" The creature gave her an odd look before flitting over to the area where the lioness had gestured. Kilani nodded and continued forward for a few steps, but stopped when an unfamiliar smell met her nose. Another cat? I could certainly do with some conversation! The tawny cat plopped down and squinted around, looking for the jaguar she could smell but not see. "Hey! I've never been in this part of the jungle before. Could you help me find some water? Whoever you are?" She giggled at how silly she felt, speaking to shadows and tree limbs. She twirled her soul stone around on its necklace chain while she waited for an answer, smiling brightly.
Nayva was far from expecting company that didn't have wings and feathers but of course luck apparently wasn't on her side today. As she sat perched on her branch, icy blue eyes on the nest, she heard the sound of a bubbly, chirpy voice that almost made her groan out loud. Oh good, she thought with irritation, just what I need, a happy little soul ruining my lunch. Lifting her eyes from the nest she'd been watching, it didn't take long at all for her to spot the lioness on the ground near the tree Nayva currently sat in. Lips drawing back in a scowl, Nayva weighed her options.
Maybe if she kept quiet then the lioness wouldn't notice her and would go on her merry way, taking her annoyingly happy voice with her. But just as that thought crossed her mind, Nayva heard the female call out to someone, probably her, as she stopped where she was and sat down, waiting for an answer. Or not, Nayva thought with frustration. So it looked like Nayva was going to have to deal with this nuisance now and hopefully get the lioness to go away so she could proceed with her bird catching. On the plus side, that nest wasn't going anywhere so she could always come back to it.
Taking a deep breath to keep herself from clawing the pretty little face off this female, Nayva finally rose back up to her paws and headed to a different low hanging branch where she could speak to the female without having to get on her level. Nayva enjoyed having the advantage of height on her side.
"What's the matter, don't know your own way around the jungle?" Nayva purred though there was a hint of menace to her voice. Her usual smirk lifted the corners of her lips and she stretched out on the lower branch, her hind legs dangling off either side of her perch while her front paws lay crossed on top of the branch. "The jungle isn't a place for kind hearted souls like yourself. Maybe you should run along and head home, hmm?" Nayva added, hoping against hope that would be the end of their conversation and the lioness would scurry home.

Kilani sat expectantly, the tufted tip of her tail flicking around on the ground behind her. Her bright eyes danced around from branch to branch, looking for signs of motion amongst the jade leaves. After a moment she saw her; the dark-pelted cat with vibrant blue markings. The lioness tilted her head slightly to one side, ears pricking forward in interest. This was not really what she had expected. Or was it? Truthfully she didn't know. Perhaps she was just generally surprised to find someone out in the jungle. She smiled as the other cat moved down to a lower branch.
What's the matter, don't know your own way around the jungle? Kilani frowned for a split second but shook her head, placing another smile on her lips. "No, not really. I'm from the city. I do think it's really nice out here, though." She shifted her weight on her paws, curling her tail around herself and wrapping it along her toes. The jungle isn't a place for kind-hearted souls like yourself. Maybe you should run along and head home, hmm? This time Kilani's frown stayed, and she cocked her head at the female with a furrowed brow. What did she mean by that? Was she... threatening? No. She was probably just teasing. Right? "Uhh... I don't think it's that bad so far. I mean it's maybe a little lonely but it's refreshing." She stared down at her feet, extending her claws and shoving them into the dirt absentmindedly.
"Are you from around here? The jungle, I mean?" She decided to try again, turning her eyes up to the jaguar with a slightly smaller smile. "You seem pretty at home in that tree, " she added. Maybe if she's from here she's seen Dantai... Her brother had left almost a month before her... maybe this she-cat had crossed paths with him.
Nayva couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the females openness. Of course she was from the city. That wasn't at all surprising, especially by seeing how naive and innocent she was. Licking her lips, she rested her head on her front paws, icy blue eyes looking over this new female. Spotting her soul stone, Nayva realized she was only a dark blue and had no known abilities yet. Huffing a bit in laughter, she lifted her head and yawned, blinking lazily as her eyes came back to rest on the energetic feline below her.
When the female frowned a bit, even Nayva couldn't help but sigh at her innocence. "It can be dangerous if you aren't careful. Don't make the mistake of trusting everyone you cross paths with." She warned, her voice softening a bit before she groaned at herself for being kind or at least as kind as Nayva could be.
Letting her moment of kindness slip from her memory, Nayva let her gaze shift casually down at the female from her perch in the tree. "I come and go as I please. Though technically I guess you'd say I'm a citizen of Naxorus." She replied, not caring how much this lioness knew about her. She wasn't at all a threat and she was far less annoying when she wasn't bouncing around talking to birds. "I'm guessing you haven't been out here long?" Nayva assumed, looking the female over with a bit more interest than before.
"Why are you out here anyway? You said you're from the city, so why leave it?" She couldn't help but wonder who in their right mind would let a naive one such as her to wander the jungle alone.

Kilani's ears flicked back forward as the female chuckled, sighing slightly and letting some of the tension lift from her shoulders. She'd been a little intimidated at first, but perhaps this she-cat wouldn't be so bad after all. She flicked her tufted tail again, feeling it tickle the fur on her front paws.
She heard a soft sigh, almost inaudible, float down from the trees. It can be dangerous if you aren't careful. Don't make the mistake of trusting everyone you cross paths with. Kilani grew still, casting her pale eyes down at her paws and shuffling them uncomfortably. It was so hard for her to think that there were others out there who were really just mean. In her mind there was good at the heart of every cat. In some it was just buried too deep beneath pain and sorrow. Kilani turned her eyes back to the jaguar, giving her a small but sincere smile in return for the advice. "Thank you. I'll... try to be careful and keep that in mind. "
The conversation shifted to easier things then, and Kilani's eyes returned to the jaguar. I come and go as I please. Though technically I guess you'd say I'm a citizen of Naxorus. The lioness's ears flicked forward with curiosity. She'd never heard of someone living in both worlds; everyone she knew simply picked one or the other. Her brother, for example had chosen to stay in the wilds for over two months now and hadn't come back. The prospect of having that sort of freedom was exciting, although she'd have to work her job around it, of course. I'm guessing you haven't been out here long? The other cat's voice roused her and she shook her head, smiling politely. "Oh, no. Not even a week yet," she laughed. "I'm still getting the hang of things. Although fresh meat is a really nice change from the stuff in the market."
Why are you out here anyway? You said you're from the city, so why leave it? Kilani shrugged, reaching up and toying with the necklace that held her soul stone. "I dunno, looking for adventure, I guess? My parents live a comfortable life in the city but I just want to see more things before I decide what I'm going to do with my life." She felt the heat rise in her face and cleared her throat. "I mean I guess it's pretty silly, but I wanted some freedom for a change. I think a lot of it came after my brother left for the same reasons."
Nayva gave a bit of a grunt when the female agreed to be careful, not wanting to act like she cared much about what happened to her. At least she'd done her part in a way by warning her of the dangers the jungle could hold. Because it was pretty clear that this lioness had no clue what she was getting herself into. Nayva could still remember a time when she had been young and her mother had still been with her. Those had been the only times when she'd felt truly free. Free much like this female seemed to feel. She envied her for that feeling but knew that in the real world, freedom came with worry.
Nayva did blink slowly and smile a bit when the lioness spoke of the freshly caught meat rather than the meat that was sold in the market that usually had so many herbs and such added to it to keep it from spoiling. Rolling onto her back on her branch, Nayva felt her stomach give a bit of a grumble at the thought of food and she was quickly reminded of her spoiled bird hunting.
When the female spoke of her reasons for leaving, Nayva grunted a bit and shook her head. That seemed to be what happened with those that were well off. They never could just be satisfied with what they had, they always have to go out and make sure they really wanted it. Lots of the cats that Nayva knew, though most of them were low lives, didn't have that luxury. Nayva was one of them.
"Good luck with that I suppose." She answered simply, tilting her head back so she could look at the lioness upside down. It wasn't until the female mentioned a brother that Nayva turned her head so she could see the female right side up. "A brother you say?" She began, thinking back to the snippy male lion she'd met just a couple days ago. Now that she looked at this female, the two of them did look quite similar. Same blue eyes, same soul stone level and same slightly paler coat. It couldn't be, could it? "He doesn't happen to be a grumpier, less bubbly male version of you does he?" She asked, a smirk spreading across her muzzle as she thought back to that rather unpleasant and irritating interaction.

Kilani felt a bit better, as if talking to this more experienced explorer would somehow make it easier for her to make her own way through the thick leaves and vines. She felt hopeful, above all, that this slightly reckless endeavor would truly give her a path to follow.
The lioness watched the jaguar for reactions to her words, noting the subtle smile that curled at the edges of her lips when she mentioned the fresh meat. She had to admit that this other cat was rather pretty, with her vibrant blue markings and matching eyes. She was obviously more familiar with magic than Kilani was. Instinctively, her eyes traveled up to search for Nayva's soul stone. She found it, dangling in front of her chest and as black as the she-cats pelt. Kilani's mother had taught her that the black stones were never a good sign, and that felines who wore them should be avoided at all costs. But Nayva didn't seem so bad; she'd even given her sincere advice. It was confusing to the lioness to think that perhaps appearances truly could be deceiving.
The jaguar grunted and shook her head when Kilani told her about her search for something more, and the young lioness had to admit that she felt a bit sheepish. It sounded even sillier now that she'd said it aloud and her cheeks burned with embarassment. Good luck with that I suppose. The lioness flashed her an apologetic smile and nodded. "Thanks."
A brother, you say? Kilani nodded a couple of times, bright smile returning to her maw. He doesn't happen to be a grumpier, less bubbly male version of you does he? The tawny cat jumped to her feet, looking even more excited than before. "Oh yes! Dantai! That's my brother!" Her tail flicked happily. "He's not really one for conversation. Kind of a turd sometimes," she giggled. "But yeah, that's him. The one who gave me wanderlust. You saw him then? Is he doing well? I think he'd probably try to make me go home if he found me, but it'd be nice to know that he's alright." She paused for a second, brow furrowing and smile fading slightly. "I realized that I haven't even introduced myself. I'm usually not so rude." Another lopsided grin. "I'm Kilani."
Nayva's blue eyes watched the lioness jump with excitement at her quick description of her brother. An amused chuckle escaped Nayva at the she cats excitement over such a grumpy male of a cat but she assumed siblings had some sort of special bond. A bond she would never know about since she was the only cub to survive from her litter. She pushed old memories aside though, not needing to even let herself wander back into all that nonsense.
Oh yes! Dantai! That's my brother! He's not really one for conversation. Kind of a turd sometimes Nayva snorted a bit in agreement when the feline went on to describe him some more. That was him alright, definitely not one for conversation as her somewhat short conversation wit him had been almost too much talk. But yeah, that's him. The one who gave me wanderlust. You saw him then? Is he doing well? I think he'd probably try to make me go home if he found me, but it'd be nice to know that he's alright. Nayva's jaws stretched open in a yawn as if the young lioness's excitement was exhausting her.
"Yes, yes I saw him. He's fine, or at least appeared to be. Other than the fact that he's quite unpleasant company." Nayva finished, a less than pleasurable expression spreading across her face at the memory of the male.

Kilani's tail swished excitedly behind her as she beamed up at the dark colored cat. No wonder she was a little grouchy, if she met Dantai first. The lioness resisted the urge to giggle. She sat back down after a moment, although the excitement was still evident on her face. To know that he was alive was a good thing, although the idea of running into him wasn't quite so pleasant. Boy, would he be displeased to see her running around in the wilds without supervision.
The jaguar snorted as Kilani spoke about her brother, and it felt oddly pleasing to know that she wasn't the only one who thought Dantai had the charm of a tick on the rump. Yes, yes, I saw him. He's fine, or at least appeared to be. Other than the fact that he's quite unpleasant company. She giggled and nodded again. "Even when he was younger, he was a knot on a log. It's almost like he's allergic to fun. Or even excitement, for that matter. Sorry on his behalf. All Argyris's aren't like that. But I'm glad he's doing well." She paused for a moment and lowered her ears, looking a bit sheepish. "Um, would you mind telling me which way he was? I don't particularly want to get a tongue-lashing out here, it would be nice to have some alone time for a bit longer."
Kilani hesitated for a moment, glancing at the black stone adorning the black cat. She decided to just be bold and ask. "Your soul stone... you're a dark seeker, aren't you?" She didn't think she'd ever really met one before, but they'd taught them a lot about them in her history lessons. "What exactly does that mean? If you don't mind me asking. We hear a lot about them, but I'm convinced that half the stories are just voodoo tales made up to scare cubs." She was a bit more still and meek, but curiosity burned in her eyes. This was what she was out here for. To discover.
Nayva could tell that the female was glad to hear her brother was fine but also didn't seem to excited to run into him. Even when he was younger, he was a knot on a log. It's almost like he's allergic to fun. Or even excitement, for that matter. Sorry on his behalf. All Argyris's aren't like that. But I'm glad he's doing well. Nayva nodded in reply, a bit of a smile flickering across her face before she forced it away, not wanting to seem to friendly to this lioness, if she wasn't careful she could end up being stuck with her for a much longer time than she'd like.
Um, would you mind telling me which way he was? I don't particularly want to get a tongue-lashing out here, it would be nice to have some alone time for a bit longer. Stretching her legs out, Nayva flicked her ears forward when the pale lioness asked which way her brother had gone so she could avoid running into him. A chuckle slipped past Nayva's jaws before she glanced off in the direction of Lucis Temple. "Not sure where he was headed, but he went off in the direction of Lucis Temple. That way." She explained, lifting a front paw and gesturing in the right direction.
Your soul stone... you're a dark seeker, aren't you? Nayva would admit, she was surprised by the female's next question and her head lifted up so she could stare down at the lioness for a moment, studying her expression through narrowed eyes before relaxing a bit and shifting positions. Moving so she was laying somewhat upright, her front legs held up her upper body and she got comfortable before speaking. "Not so much anymore." She began, pink tongue licking her front paw before she swiped it over one of her ears. "My abilities are where I need them to be now." She added, icy blue eyes landed on the female again as she studied her reaction to Nayva's words.
What exactly does that mean? If you don't mind me asking. We hear a lot about them, but I'm convinced that half the stories are just voodoo tales made up to scare cubs. Nayva looked thoughtful for a moment as she considered this. She hadn't had the luxury of being taught the history of the soul stones in the schools up at the palace like the rest of the Naxorus cubs. That and her mother had been taken from her when she was just a year old. That left her to fend for herself and learn what she could from whoever she could get to teach her how to handle her abilities. Lost in memories for a moment, she closed her eyes and forced herself back to the present again.
"A black soul stone simply means that a cat has a dark heart. Why they have a dark heart is usually a much more complex story." Nayva explained as simply as she could so as to not go into detail of her own past.

Kilani ground her paw into the dirt while waiting for an answer, eyes focused on her feet. She felt guilty for wanting to avoid Dantai, even though she loved him dearly. But this adventure was her business, and not his. Even though he'd certainly make it his if he found her out in the jungle. it wasn't that she never wanted to see him, just that she wasn't quite ready to be bossed around and treated like a cub. Not sure where he was headed, but he went off in the direction of Lucis Temple. That way. The lioness raised her pale eyes and followed the jaguar's paw, nodding with a grin. Okay. Go the other way. Got it. She sighed quietly and flicked her tail. "Thanks."
There was a bit of nervousness writhing in the pit of her stomach when she asked about the other cat's soul stone, but her curiosity was definitely stronger. This jaguar didn't seem bad at all. So why did they teach cubs to fear them so much? Kilani waited as Nayva got more comfortable, wondering for a moment if she would even answer it. Just before the lioness could say 'nevermind' the dark cat spoke. Not so much anymore. My abilities are where I need them to be now. Kilani made a small, thoughtful noise in her throat. What sort of abilities came with being a dark seeker? She was burning with questions but didn't want to be intrusive.
A black soul stone simply means that a cat has a dark heart. Why they have a dark heart is usually a much more complex story. The lioness was quiet for a moment, turning around this idea in her head. Did dark mean evil? Certainly it couldn't make them all bad, right? "Oh, okay." Her voice was small and her thoughts in a different time, when Dantai had been the star of the family. He was their son, their pride and joy and until he'd voiced his disdain for the merchant's life he could do no wrong. She felt jealousy for him then, and even a bit now. Could that be a clue to the sort of things that made up a dark heart? "Thanks for sharing that with me, really. I think it could be helpful." She smiled again, a much more tame expression than before. It was a complicated matter, the contents of one's heart.
There was a distant rumble and the lioness turned her head to look at the smear of dark clouds encroaching on the horizon. "It's been really nice to meet you, and I hope we run into each other again someday. But I've still got to catch dinner and find somewhere to weather this storm." She stood up and stretched, shaking out her fur. What she said was true, but more than that she wanted time to her self to mull over what the jaguar had told her. "Thanks for the advice, too. And stay out of the rain." She grinned and began to turn to leave.
Nayva Aeron figured this could be a good place to end

Thanks. Nayva simply blinked in reply to her thanks, her own thoughts wandering as they tended to do. Would she be avoiding her brother if she had one? She had no way of knowing but she did feel a pang in her heart at the thought of having someone out here in this crazy world that would actually care about what happened to her. She quickly pushed those thoughts aside though and continued to groom herself though her light blue eyes did glance down at the lioness every once and awhile, wondering what the female was thinking since she was still there and clearly had something on her mind.
Nayva was actually quite proud of herself for the way she had explained the black soul stones. To her, she knew she wasn't the most upstanding citizen in all of Naxorus and yes, she had done quite a few things she shouldn't have. But her past had shaped her into what she was now. Her past and her desire for revenge. That was all she could think about and she was a bit surprised when she caught herself thinking that maybe she wasn't such a bad soul. She did have a reason for her wrong doings.
Brushing the thought away immediately, she chuckled inwardly at the mere thought before shaking her head a bit when she'd finished her grooming. Eyes lingering back on the female, she could tell she'd given her something to ponder. Thanks for sharing that with me, really. I think it could be helpful. Nayva nodded and gave a small grunt of acknowledgement but raised a brow as she watched the female prepare to leave. It's been really nice to meet you, and I hope we run into each other again someday. But I've still got to catch dinner and find somewhere to weather this storm."It's been a pleasure Kilani." She replied simply, blinking slowly as she watched the lioness rise to her paws.
Thanks for the advice, too. And stay out of the rain. A soft chuckle rumbled up from Nayva's chest at the warning and she dipped her head to the feline with a soft smile. "You as well." She answered, watching the lioness turn to go.
