WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT?
Nymeria Valantis didn't always know what she was doing. It was hard enough to be a canine in the Kyon pack that was the daughter of the former alpha, Titan Valantis. But she was the first female alpha and she was only alpha because she'd accidentally led her two siblings into an ambush against a group of rouge felines that had ended with her brother, the rightful alpha, being hurt badly and being unable to fulfill the duties of an alpha.
She was to blame for her brother not getting to fulfill his destiny and there wasn't a day that went by that she didn't think about that. She blamed herself day in and day out and there were a few of those in her pack that also blamed her and resented her because of what had happened all those years ago.
She wasn't sure if she even wanted to be alpha anymore. She probably would have turned the position down if it wasn't for her father. She knew that she couldn't let him down or let the alpha position pass from the Valantis family when her grandfather had been the one to start the pack all those years ago.
A sigh slipped past the large she wolf's lips as she lay in her den that was a den cut into the interior stone wall of the Skyli Caverns that the Kyon pack called home. She dreaded getting up each morning, knowing of all the challenges her job entailed but the thought of her father was what pushed her on and she knew that she couldn't let him down.
Finally pushing herself to her large paws with a groan, Nymeria shook out her fur before slipping out past the vine curtain that hid the entrance of her den. Stepping out into the middle of the wide open cavern, her bright green eyes were able to scan the whole cavern with one glance. She saw that a few others were awake and moving about already and a hunting patrol would need to be sent out soon in order to bring in some food for the pack.
Nymeria lifted her head like a true alpha should and scanned the area in search of volunteers that might want to help with a hunting patrol. One thing at a time, she thought, trying to keep her more depressing thoughts from taking over too much of her attention.

Every step was agony.
Even years after the attack, Maddock's muscles burned under the strain of movement. Half hidden by ragged, unkempt fur, fleshy pink scars pulled tight as his skin stretched and contracted over bone. Perhaps he had been handsome once, but that was when he had both of his ears intact and claw marks didn't race across his muzzle. Now as he limped into Skyli Cavern, canines hurried to removed themselves from his path and whispered under their breath to curious pups, That's Mad Maddock, don't ever get in his way or he'll turn you into a toad. They avoided his gaze like the plague, as if he could infect them with his madness with a single look.
Perpetuating the image of insanity, Maddy allowed his tongue to loll out of the side of his mouth and wandered a highly erratic path as he made his way deeper into the cavern. He would hobble slowly for a moment before suddenly dashing off at an angle, dragging his shriveled leg behind him to snarl at a uppity vixen. Cackling wildly like a hyena at her terrified yelp he continued on his way to the heart of the den. "The claws of rabbits dance and sing, who will carry the blood filled torch? Crimson night, starless night, canines dying by fester light" Deep tones sung under his breath in a rasp he stopped at the vines which shrouded the alpha's den from view. Grinning disarmingly at the stocky warrior who guarded the cavern Maddy noticed him gulp apprehensively. "Ah, so my sister has managed to find a half decent guard for herself eh? I wonder if you are here who will keep the pups safe in their den? Does our alpha truly value her life above theirs?"
Spoken in a soft, sane whisper only the guard could hear his words. It was true that the amount of warriors in Kyon had been low as of late, and most of them were less than competent. He chuckled and continued on his way to terrorize a young couple which was sitting a little ways away gazing deeply into each other's eyes and attempting to have a conversation. Sitting down a mere three feet away from the love birds, he simply stared at them, his face entirely devoid of emotion. Slowly they became aware of him and shifted uncomfortably, but as he hadn't really done anything they elected to try and ignore him. The female, a rather beautiful Australian Shepard opened her mouth to speak. Darling, I have wonderful news! You're going to be a father! Though clearly uncomfortable with having Maddy watching, the male (who was a rather dull looking Rottweiler in Maddy's opinion) immediately perked up at the news and seemed to forget that the fallen canine was there, Really?! Oh, that's wond-
A high derisive laugh cut him off as Maddock rolled on the floor in hysterics. "You-you don't actually believe that? Hehehehaha!" Wiping a tear from the corner of his dark eye, he stood up and curled himself to stand next to the female who was suddenly looking distinctly uncomfortable. "If you are the father I shall eat my own leg! Oh wait! Someone already has!" Cackling he trotted off to stand next to a sandy coated wolf, "You should have seen the two of them going at it a couple of weeks ago! And the week before! And the week before that!! And even... last night... Ha! Hahahaha!!" Once again he collapsed onto the ground and the shepard, looking more and more alarmed by the second tried to write it off as one of Mad Maddock's tricks.
Eyes rolling with glee, Maddock became suddenly poignantly aware of Nymeria. "Ah! But look! My backstabbing sister has appeared, please excuse me I must attend to her!" Leaving chaos in his wake he trotted over to Nymeria and made a mocking bow. "Oh Alpha my Alpha! Who may I ask will you be throwing to the felines today? I would offer up myself, but as you can see I am very busy!" His words were light but hid a snarl beneath them. Every sinew in his body longed to leap forth and release the rage that boiled beneath his scarred hide, but he soothed himself with two words... Not yet.
OOC: Whoa, totally didn't mean to write that much, but I got kinda carried away... ^^

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT?
Nymeria had heard the cackling sound of her brother's laughter even before she'd stepped out of her den. She would hardly wait to deal with him and his antics that always seemed to leaving the pack's fur ruffled. Stepping out of her den, her green eyes scanned the camp for volunteers for a hunting patrol as well as for any sign of her brother who she knew had to be lurking about somewhere.
Sure enough, the trail of where he had been wasn't at all hard to find. There was a startled female across the camp and then a couple that looked like they were about to get in a fight. Sighing loudly, Nymeria's eyes finally came to land on her brother as he moved from his current victims to head towards her. Ah! But look! My backstabbing sister has appeared, please excuse me I must attend to her! Even from a yard or so away, Nym could hear the snarky words her brother was speaking. He was purposefully making sure she could hear most likely.
She blinked slowly and lifted her head a bit before stopping as he came closer to her. Oh Alpha my Alpha! Who may I ask will you be throwing to the felines today? I would offer up myself, but as you can see I am very busy! Before she could even speak to ask him what he was throwing a fit about now, he was talking again, bringing up the past as he always did. "Maddock please, how much longer must you bring up the past? It's not as if I can change what happened, no matter how much I want to. Surely you realize that by now." She replied, somewhat tired of saying the same thing to him over and over and getting nothing more than anger and sarcasm in return. If this were with any other canine she would have bit their head off for throwing such a fit and put them back in line but this was her brother and even if she was alpha, she knew that she would always owe him a debt. A debt she could never repay. And he was fully aware of that as well.

Maddock's body trembled visibly and many would consider it a product of his mangled musculature, the truth had nothing to do with that. In his sister's presence Maddy found his patience tested beyond what he thought was possible. Every tiny step was kept under tight control to prevent him from leaping at Nymeria's throat and ruining the many years of planning he had undertaken. Soon it would be time for him to enact part one...
Eyes rolling to fix on his traitorous sibling he grinned sarcastically at her. The alpha gave off an air of composed calm and whatever emotions she felt were displayed only if it served her purpose. Maddy was sure that the exasperation currently lighting her features covered disappointment that he had somehow lived through the feline attack. If the rest of the pack weren't watching she surely would attack him herself to finish the job she started. It only made sense as that was exactly what Maddy would do and there were no other courses of action available to either of them. Some day, perhaps soon, they would meet in battle and finish this once and for all.
His ears swiveled halfheartedly to catch Nymeria's words and as he interpreted them a silent snarl raised his lips to expose sharp white teeth. It was only a minor threat and the rest of his body remained neutral. A few ignorant canines could even pass it off as a crazed smile. "Indeed I do. I realize much more than you think oh Alpha." He made another mock bow, "I have no doubts that you would want to change the past." Of course that change would include him dying as he was supposed to. Perhaps she would even go so far as to remove Talullah as well and eliminate all challenges to her reign. Maddy's pupils dilated with horror and anger as this new thought occurred to him, born by the implications in Nymeria's words. He would have to increase his watch over Lulu to make completely sure that Nymeria made no move against her. Oh how clever his sister was! Pretending to care so deeply about Lulu when it was all just an elaborate lie! His tail twitched and Maddy found himself staring fixedly at the rock wall behind Nymeria, attempting to melt it with his gaze.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT?
Nymeria listened to his sarcastic words and gave a sigh, she wasn't sure what the point of his visits were but she couldn't bring herself to chase him off like most of the pack probably wanted her to do. After all, he was still a Valantis and that made him family. She couldn't turn her back on her family, not with their mother and father being gone. Family had always been something that their parents had pushed, always wanting their offspring to get along and yet here they were, more at odds than anyone would have thought. Indeed I do. I realize much more than you think oh Alpha. I have no doubts that you would want to change the past.
The she wolf, furrowed her brows a bit at Maddock's words and she could sense the double meaning though she couldn't quite interpret what it was that he could mean. Multiple ideas came into her head and she felt her own lips raise a bit to expose a bit of her white fangs before she spoke. "Maddock if you have a purpose to being here I suggest you speak it now. Otherwise I'm going to have to ask you to be on your way." She stated with a note of authority taking over her voice as she stepped forward along with one of her guards stepping up beside her as well.
