WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT?
Nymeria had to keep snapping herself back to reality the past couple of days. Aloyoshenka had only been staying within the pack for the last couple days and yet she would keep catching herself watching him from afar. He'd probably even caught her doing it a couple of times without her even noticing. It was a bit embarrassing for her but how could she help the fact that she hadn't had a male's attention in any other way than simply her being his alpha. Alo was different though because he seemed to actually enjoy her company and didn't just want to see her to see what duties he had to fulfill for that day.
It was a wonderful change of pace but she had to keep snapping herself out of it. She was the alpha, she couldn't act like a love sick school girl and yet that was exactly how she felt. She cleared her throat and straightened up though as she headed towards the den that Alo was staying in. It was big enough that a large canine could step inside and walk around without bumping their head. "Alo?" She called outside the entrance. It was evening and the crystals that grew in the rock walls were glowing now that the sun was gone, illuminating the cavern in pale shades of blue.

ALOYOSHENKA
the past few days had been a whirlwind for the boy. so many new sights and new people to meet - and he felt sure that his nose was sore from smelling so many new things. a lot of things had been running through the boy's mind, and as a result, he spent more time resting in the den than was probably customary for a pack member. nymeria was the object of most of his daydreaming, though recently he had found his siblings drifting through his mind, and he felt this weird sort of nostalgia and sadness, mixed together. alo, of course, did not mention these things to anyone, and prompted planted a friendly smile on his face when someone noticed him, but still found himself thinking and napping away many hours of the days inside this little den.
today is the setting of the setting of the third sun since the male arrived, and he's beginning to feel a little more lively, and a little less homesick. from the darkness of the den, he can see the gorgeous crystals of the cave begin to illuminate. he wonders why they glow, and why only at night? and why only here? questions that only they can answer, alo supposes, and while the boy is very intelligent he hasn't quite figured out how to talk to glowing crystals quite yet. "alo?" the voice cuts his thoughts short and alo quickly raises himself up to four paws to greet his alpha. he steps to her and dips his head in greeting and respect. "hello, my dear," he greeted, raising himself to look her in the eye. "looking more lovely than ever." he sits back against his haunches, giving the girl a smile. "so. what does pack life have in store for me on this beautiful night?"

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT?
Nymeria paused outside Alo's den, unsure if she should be bothering him this late since most of the pack was in bed or mulling about lazily in the clearing as they got ready to go to bed. She finally had forced herself to call to him, standing outside his den as she waited for him to slip out. Hello, my dear. Looking more lovely than ever. Her smile instantly appeared when he stepped out of his den and she glanced away a bit shyly at his kind words of greeting. "You're too kind." She answered, green eyes coming back to rest on him, glad to see he didn't seem dead tired.
So. What does pack life have in store for me on this beautiful night? Her smile didn't leave her face at his question and she rose back to her paws before replying. "I wanted to speak with you. Thought we could go for a walk." She explained, waiting a moment to see if he would object before she led the way out of the cavern and into the cool night air. Nymeria loved the night time and she had only stepped out of the cavern a moment before she turned sharply to the left and found the familiar rock ledges that led up the mountain their cavern lay in.
Glancing over her shoulder, she gave Alo a smile before climbing up the ledges one at a time until they finally reached the top of the cliff. Stepping towards the edge, Nymeria sat down, her emerald eyes looking out over the vast expansion of land laid out in front of them that was Kyon territory. "This is my favorite place to come, especially at night. I love looking at the stars. Helps me clear my head." She said, her voice soft as a calm breeze brushed through her fur and her gaze shifted from the view, to the stars and then to him.
aloyoshenka follows his lady without protest, wagging his tail delightfully. she leads him out of the cavern, and turns sharply, though he stands there for a moment, allowing the cool breeze to brush through his pale fur. he can smell winter in the air, and is actually somewhat grateful for it; the heat is not fun in a place as humid as these forests. regaining his composure, the boy quickly follows the woman, slowing, however, when she begins to make her way up some precarious looking rocks. somewhat nervously, the boy follows her steps exactly up the cliffside. unlike the cats who inhabit these forests, whose large, nimble paws are perfect for these kinds of things, aloyoshenka, like all canines, has smaller, less flexible paws and limbs, and a few times, he finds himself slipping along the rocks. when they reach the top, he finally lets out the breath he didnt know he was holding in.
the lady steps closer to the edge and he follows obediently. over the cliff lies everything he's ever known. somewhere out below these canopies, the felines are hunting for their next meal, and, maybe somewhere far in the distance, his family, divided and alone, are wandering beneath the trees, trying to survive. "this is my favorite place to come, especially at night. i love looking at the stars. helps me clear my head." the lady's voice is as soft as the breeze that flows through her gorgeous fur. she looks to him, and he takes a step closer, sitting back on his haunches beside her, so that their fur is just barely touching. "what is it that you need to clear your mind from?" he asks, voice barely above a whisper, so as not to disturb the beauty of the silent scene before him.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT?
Her ear flickers over to the male that is now sitting beside her and she is silent for a moment as she tries to decide how to explain her next few words so that they make sense the way she intends them to. "I... I want you to know the truth about me." He begins, speaking her words slowly and carefully as she picks them. "I understand you've heard of me but I want you to know what really happened in my past." She explains, glancing over to him before turning back to look out over the lands in front of them.
Her mind is collected as she thinks of where to begin before closing her eyes, taking a deep breath and beginning. "I have a sister named Talulla and a brother named Maddock. My father was the pack alpha before me and... my brother was suppose to take it over when he came of age after my father stepped down." She began, swallowing hard as old memories she'd tried to shut out came back to haunt her. "I was always so adventurous. Wanting to go explore the pack lands before we were old enough. One day, me and my sister went out to explore and Maddock went with us to keep us from getting into trouble. That was when we came across a group of rogue felines..." She paused, forcing her voice to stop from shaking.
"They attacked us and my brother stepped up and was able to fend them off long enough for a nearby patrol to come chase them off." She paused again, closing her eyes and looking at her paws. She was silent for a few moments before she took a deep breath and lifted her gaze just a bit. "He would have been an outstanding alpha. He deserved it... not me." She muttered softly before remembering she Alo was still there. "He was hurt badly. He hit his head pretty hard and his hind leg was pretty mangled. It took him a long time to recover and he was never the same after it all." She added, lifting her gaze to the expansion of land in front of her. "I became alpha because he couldn't fulfill the alpha duties in his state. I just... I wanted you to know that." She finished, sniffing and pushing away her sadness the best she could. She knew she was the alpha and shouldn't be showing a newcomer this kind of weakness but Alo seemed different and she wanted him to know about her past before she found out from someone else.

ALOYOSHENKA
there is a long silence after aloyoshenka's words, and the lady gives him a sorrowful look. he inches daringly closer to her, so as to press gently his maw against her shoulder, an attempt at comforting the girl. "i... want you to know the truth about me," nymeria says methodically. "i understand you've heard of me but i want you to know what really happened in my past." curiosity pricks at the boy's fur and he looks up at her, but remains silent as she continues with her story, telling him of her family. when she tells of a wolf named maddock, aloyoshenka can feel his ears perk up. he has heard that name hissed before, and though he wishes to ask more, he refrains out of respect for the woman.
her voice shakes ever so slightly as she mentions the events which led up to maddock's current condition. she pauses for a moment to compose herself, and alo wonders if perhaps she was the lone survivor of this encounter, feeling a pang of sympathy. "he would have been an outstanding alpha. he deserved it... not me," she mumbles, and he brushes his nose against the fur of her neck softly. "he was hurt badly. he hit his head pretty hard and his hind leg was pretty mangled. it took him a long time to recover and he was never the same after it all. i became alpha because he couldn't fulfill the alpha duties in his state. i just... i wanted you to know that."
aloyoshenka is quiet for a moment. he can see that nymeria must have very high expectations of herself, a very guilty conscience - or perhaps a mixture of both. he pulls away from her ever so slightly, eyeing her with an even gaze. "my dear, forgive me if i am being presumptuous, but in my few days here i have found a deep residing respect for you amongst your canines, one that is rather contagious. you may not have been the 'rightful alpha' or the 'heir to the throne'" -these words have sarcasm dripping from them as the boy is not terribly familiar with the importance of pack hierarchy - "but you have taken this position and done your job better than anyone. these canines, your pack, love and respect you. i would venture to say that you have absolutely proved yourself as an excellent leader." he leans in close to her, daring to continue: "what happened was not your fault. it was not anyone's fault. you cannot feel guilty about something you cannot control."

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOTHING GOES RIGHT?
Nymeria is able to smile a bit at the feeling of Alo's muzzle pressed against her shoulder comfortingly. It's a welcomed gesture and she can't remember the last time someone made a gesture to comfort her. She's suppose to be the alpha who always hides her feelings. She isn't suppose to need to be comforted. She speaks her story before looking down at her paws, waiting for him to react to her words and hoping that he won't think less of her because of it. She already has that struggle with a fair amount of the rest of the pack and she wouldn't blame him if he disliked her because of it.
Once she finishes her story, her emerald gaze shifts over to Alo as he moves away from her a bit. Her heart sinks at the space that now stands between them but she turns her eyes away in an attempt to hide her hurt. My dear, forgive me if I am being presumptuous, but in my few days here I have found a deep residing respect for you amongst your canines, one that is rather contagious. you may not have been the 'rightful alpha' or the 'heir to the throne but you have taken this position and done your job better than anyone. these canines, your pack, love and respect you. I would venture to say that you have absolutely proved yourself as an excellent leader. What happened was not your fault. It was not anyone's fault. You cannot feel guilty about something you cannot control.
His words make her raise her gaze to look over at him again and she sniffs a bit before smiling at his kind words. A slight chuckle escapes her lips at the thought of her actually doing her job well. Could she really just be being too hard on herself? That's something she would probably never know due to the fact that she's always held herself to higher standards than necessary. And yet, here is a newcomer who is saying such things about how loved she is among her pack. The thought is all that she has ever wanted to hear and she feels her heart rise at the thought of her dream actually being real and her not realizing it because she can't pull herself out of the past. "That means more to me... than you could ever imagine." She manages to say, smiling over at Alo before glancing down at her paws, a bit embarrassed for all the emotion she has showed him so quickly.
