Reeves knew that he shouldn't be doing this. He was only going to make things harder on himself and his family. But how could he keep going if he didn't at least know that his family was alright? He couldn't. He had to at least know that his mother and Seda were okay. Magnus was pretty strong and he wasn't as worried about the male ruling Naxorus. He'd check on him a different night since the city was almost half a day's journey from Lucis Temple.
Pacing at the base of the temple, he could see the light that always glowed from the shrine sitting on the top level of the temple. Fighting with himself once more, his rounded ears pricked as he scanned his surroundings, almost looking for some reason to have to flee. When none came, he took a deep breath and padded up the exterior stairs that ran all the way up to the top of the temple.
When he finally reached the top, He stopped and poked his head through the long vines that covered part of the entrance. The room seemed empty other than the shrine in the middle that had the flickering flame sitting on top of it. A few large pillowed cushions were strewn along the edges of the temple, most likely for the students that were watching a demonstration by Larue or Seda, teaching them how to use a certain ability.
A soft smile lifted the corners of his mouth at the thought of his mother and sister teaching others the goodness of the stones and his tensed muscles were able to relax a bit as his eyes scanned the room wondering what it would be like to train here with his mother and sister.
However, just as quickly as the happy thought came into his head, it was gone and his muscles tensed again when he realized where he was. Doubt immediately flooded his brain once more and he knew he really shouldn't have come. Turning to face the entrance once more, he had only taken a step before he stopped dead in his tracks when a familiar voice reached his ears.

"Hear me roar"
@ubby
words: Upupu~
It hadn't been long since Larue was able to sleep peacefully. The events in her life were like wounds that refused to heal; killing Vadik was like a knife to her side, and Cadoc and Reeves leaving was only burning the wound on top of that. Her aches weren't physical however, unless you count the strain on her heart. It kept her awake and restless for months, but eventually she would collapse into deep sleep. This cycle continued for years, getting less and less severe until she was finally able to sleep in peace again. The vivid visions in her dreams returned and helped her stay asleep.
But oddly enough, there were no visions this night. Maybe that was why she could feel her stone reacting to a sudden surge of energy strong enough to bring her out of sleep. It was sudden and almost immediately faded the moment she woke and began to rise to her feet. 'Thats a lot of force coming from one stone...' she thought warily.
Larue cloaked herself in invisibility and let the cool night air carry her over the ground silently. Her head was low and she was prowling out of a force of habit as she slowly began to scan the area for the source. She went in the direction the training room, thinking it to maybe being one of the scholars visiting the shrine late at night. Many of them had said that they get a peaceful and happy feeling from it and sometimes would slip in on nights they were feeling anxious. She found the area to be empty, much to her confusion, but as she turned around to continue to search, she was frozen in place by what she saw.
'Please, don't let this be a trick of the mind.' she thought to herself. It was late and she was tired, and it wasn't like Reeves wasn't constantly on her mind before she slept. But when he smile, she knew for sure it was him. He looked healthy, much to her relief. She managed to hold in her sigh in and keep the tears welling up in the corners of her eyes in place, but seeing him turn back around almost made her heart drop out of her chest. No, it was too soon. Not yet.
"Reeves?" she managed to choke out. Her voice almost sounded meek and shy when it lacked its typical boom. Larue's feet touched the temple ground and her form was once again visible when she walked forward, tilting her head a little in awe with a faint smile on her face."Is that my baby boy, looking so much stronger and handsomer than he does in my dreams?" she asked, her voice trembling a bit, but she needed him to know how happy she was to see him. She couldn't let him stay gone for so such a long time like that anymore. He had to know how welcome he was here.

Reeves? Reeves had turned to go when his name, spoken by a familiar voice stopped him dead in his tracks. At first, his muscles tensed as he froze, not knowing whether he should turn around or run. But then his brain kicked in and he realized what he was saying. He wasn't going to run from his mother. He'd already done that once and had probably broken her heart by doing so. How could he do such a thing again.
Finally drawing in a deep breath through his nose, he let his muscles relax as he turned around to face her. A soft smile lifted the corners of his mouth as he looked her over quickly, happy to see that she seemed alright. "Hey Mom." He replied, his voice a bit shaky but he forced it to be as stable as possible.
He could tell that she was happy to see him and the guilt of leaving his family came crashing down around him. He had seen how Cadoc leaving had upset them but it had upset them in a different way than him leaving upset them. They were upset with Cadoc for his outrage and need for power. He had left because his powers were too strong for him to control and he couldn't put them in harm's way. He wouldn't be like his father.
Is that my baby boy, looking so much stronger and handsomer than he does in my dreams? His smile only grew with her words and he nodded a bit before taking a step towards her and lay his head across her shoulders. "It's me, I'm alright." He replied softly, not wanting to pull away but knowing he should. He gave her ear a quick lick though before sitting down in front of her so she could look him over more thoroughly like he knew she wanted to do.
He let himself be happy for a moment before he remembered why he hadn't allowed himself to be near his family. His powers, even though underdeveloped as they were, couldn't be controlled by him. He had seen what Vadik had done with control of his powers and he could only imagine the harm he would cause those he loved if he couldn't control them. He wouldn't know how to go on if he were to do something like that to one he loved, even if by accident. "I... I'm sorry I left." He began, Voice gaining a bit of a shake as he spoke the words.
Eyes on the ground, he shuffled his paws a bit before continuing. "But I... I had to..." He added, trailing off a bit as his brows furrowed and sadness filled his eyes. Lifting his gaze back up to his mother, he hoped she would understand. The last thing he wanted was to hurt her again.
Larue was so relieved to see that he was turning back around to greet her. She looked him in the eyes and all that she could think was he is alive. She knew he was, of course. Her visions were too persistent for them to be illusions. Still, there would be days without them that would create a roller coaster feeling of doubt and worry. Now she knew for sure, and to feel his head against her shoulders and the warmth of life coming off of him. She couldn't keep the tears from leaving her eyes any longer. "Yes, you are. You are alright." she told herself, forcing herself to pull it together.
Larue inhaled his scent as deeply as she could. It was a little altered by his time in the wilderness, but at the base she could still smell her son in him. She would remember this scent more clearly and let this become a new memory for years to come. The day her baby had come home to her. She wiped the tears still hanging from her eyes with a her paws and chuckled a little from her son's lick of assurance before brightening up, slowly churning her usual energy. Just as he had thought she would, Larue quickly started looking him over and walking around him to see how he had grown in the time he was gone. She couldn't say the jungle has been harsh to him; the weight he had put on was in muscle, which is always the best kind of weight to put on. She began to groom his mane affectionately and was satisfied when hairs were not being pulled out. He was eating enough too. That is good.
Larue was honestly content with this. Grooming her son happily and deciding to never speak of the incident again. She pulled back for a moment to give him a warm smile. "Its okay, Reeves. All that matters is that you are home now. And you are safe, and healthy." She was a little worried when Reeves wouldn't meet her eyes. Larue bowed her head to press her nose against his chin and pull it up a little. "You are happy to be back, right?" She asked. She kept her tone even and smooth, trying her best not to make him feel any worse, guilty, or whatever he was feeling. They could work that out in due time.

Yes, you are. You are alright. He let a smile rest on his face as she circled him and checking him over, making sure he wasn't lying about being alright. The jungle hadn't been hard on him it turned out. Growing up in it with his siblings and all of the knowledge his mother had given him when he was with her had been plenty to keep him healthy, alive and thriving in the world on his own. Of course he definitely got lonely out there all by himself and he was glad to be back with his mother again but he knew he couldn't stay.
Nothing had changed yet, his powers were still out of control and his father had been able to control his powers when he'd hurt Larue so Reeves could only imagine what he would do to his mother or siblings if he had no control over his powers. Growing up, while the others learned how to harness and use their powers, Reeves focused on stifling them and holding them back.
So by now he was quite good at it, his appearance being that of a normal lion though his coat was the same lighter color like his mother's with a hint of gold to it as well. His sky blue eyes were filled with warmth for the few moments his mother was grooming him and while he wanted to throw a fit about it and say he was far too old for her to be doing that to him, he let her do it without a fuss.
When she was finished and she looked happy with her work, his smile fell once more as did his gaze. Its okay, Reeves. All that matters is that you are home now. And you are safe, and healthy. Eyes on the ground, he tried to figure out how to tell his mother that he wouldn't be staying. He knew he couldn't, not yet. But he at least wanted to see her and maybe he could even tell her his plan. It was a long shot but it was the best chance he had. He knew his mother would be able to help him somewhat, but by helping him she could be putting herself in danger and he didn't want that. He couldn't have that.
He could tell that she knew something was up because her next words stung a bit even though she didn't intend for them to be that way. You are happy to be back, right? He closed his eyes tight for a minute before sighing and opening them again, lifting his head just enough so his sad eyes could meet hers. "Of course I'm happy to be back..." He began, taking a deep breath before continuing. "But I... can't stay." He finally finished, searching her face with worry to see how his words would effect her. He felt terrible for having to do this to her and maybe he should have just stayed away until he could come home for good. But things had played out this way and there was no way to change that now.
Reeves looked so troubled about something. Whatever was going on was so complex she couldn't tell if he was in some sort of trouble or just hiding something. She looked into his bright clear eyes to try to decipher the puzzle, but the way they closed and averted was pushing Larue away. She had always given him his peace and time alone, but this time would be different.
And then he said it; her worst fears. Dread swelled up from the pit of her stomach when he said that he couldn't stay. She managed to swallow it back down, however, and gave him a nod. "Oh...okay." she finally said. When he looked up with that telltale expression hoping to make sure she was okay. She gave him a smile and a nuzzle despite the pain in her chest. "Can I at least know why?" She asked sweetly. Even if she couldn't convince him to stay, she could help at the very least. And this moment could be a little while longer at that.

He hadn't wanted to tell his mother or his siblings about his powers being too much to handle but now, after everything they'd been through and after all the growing up they had all done, Reeves figured he owed her an explanation. Oh...okay. He could hear the hurt in her voice and he couldn't help but wince a bit when he heard it. He knew it must be torture for her to get her long lost son back only to find out that he couldn't stay with her like she wanted.
Can I at least know why? His eyes glanced down at the ground as he got his words together, knowing that he'd gone through this in his head over and over. There had been plenty of times he'd wanted to tell her but just couldn't bring himself to do it. He didn't want her to think he was anything like his father.
Finally taking a deep breath, he forced himself to look back up at her once more. "My abilities... I can't control them." He began the unsure look still in his eyes as his brows furrowed when all the memories of his failed attempts flashed through his head. "They're different than Seda and Magnus and Cadoc's... stronger almost." He continued, trying to explain it the best he could with what little information he had.
He had looked away from his mother again, staring off as he tried to puzzle over the reasoning behind all of this once more but still came up with no conclusion. "I'm going to go look for the master of the soul stones. I think he'll be able to help me." Reeves added, though he knew his idea to seek out a legend didn't sound very promising.
"I can't stay here because I won't accidentally hurt someone..." He explained sadness creeping back into his blue eyes before he looked back up at her again. "Especially not you or Seda."
Whatever it was, it was momentous. She could tell by the way he was molding what he wanted to say in his mind. Reeves was reserved and a bit independant, but he wasn't shy; he was always clear in how he expressed himself when he wanted to. This was different.
Larue furrowed when she heard that this was because of his abilities. A feeling of true horror bubbled up within her, but she managed to keep it buried and just closed her eyes as she listened. These stones really were threatening to tear her family apart, weren't they? "Stronger?" she echoed opening her eyes to look at him again, but he turned away. How could that be possible? Larue had almost never seen Reeves actually practice with his stone. It made her really wonder how long had Reeves been going through this alone and how could she have not known.
She had to admit that finding the master of the soul stones would probably do better than staying here, but they couldn't be sure if the master of the soul stones was still in the safer part of the jungle or even alive. To think all of this was happening to her children was exhausting, but Larue managed to pull through it time and time again, and this time wouldn't be different.
Larue looked into her son's sad blue eyes, and all she could do was smile faintly. Her own sadness was bubbling as the thoughts of what to say came to her mind, but she never had the heart to look defeated and sad in front of her children. Not after what Seda had seen."You know, normal first time mothers only have two or three cubs. Even then, only one of them survives because all the others are weak." she started with a heavy sigh. "I had four. And, as I'm sure you know by now, when your brothers started to grow bigger and stronger and you hadn't quite so much, I would remember this and such a fear and dread would overcome me. I used to cling to you but you never saw yourself that way, did you?" Larue tilted her head again, walking up to her son. Her smile was genuine now. A little embarrassment shown though too. To think she would ever have doubted Reeves just because some old statistics. Vadik's blood ran in all her cubs, so they were built much stronger than that! "You were the smaller one, but there is nothing weak about you, Reeves. As I said before; you are alive and healthy. You are also an adult; free to choose what you want to do with your life." There was a strength in her voice when she spoke, and her eyes reflected a sort of light that had gone dim since the day Reeves had left. This was partially her fault for always coddling him when he didn't want it. She was lucky to be able to make things right before it was too late, and Larue needed to seize this opportunity.
"I just want to make something very clear; we were a family before these stones came into our lives, and I won't let them take that away from me. I will help you search for the soul stone master if you promise to speak to your sister or brother as well." she wanted to include that he would visit her once in a while, but there was the real possibility that his search would send him far into the jungle. It pained her heart to think that she may only get to see him a few more times before he went of to such a far away place, but she couldn't hold him back in fear any longer. A tear streamed down her face again when she thought about how big of a game of fate they were playing, but she shook it off with a chuckle. " I'm sorry. These late hours must have me more emotional than normal..."

He didn't want to look at her for a moment, afraid that he would see fear in her eyes. The same fear that had probably been in her eyes when his father and her mate had come at her when she'd put an end to his twisted ways. Stronger? He simply nodded, replaying the few times he had tried to practice his color manipulation power only to have it explode with a bright glowing light that he had been the source of. It had scared him that just practicing could bring on such a bright and powerful thing and he'd immediately decided never to try anything like that again. He could only imagine what his other abilities could do. His elemental manipulation could easily hurt someone. Even his bright explosion of glowing light could have blinded anyone near him.
You know, normal first time mothers only have two or three cubs. Even then, only one of them survives because all the others are weak. Her words confused him a bit when she began to speak as he didn't know where exactly she was going with this but she always had a way of making him feel better and he assumed now would be no different. She'd always been the best at putting things in a different, less scary perspective.
I had four. And, as I'm sure you know by now, when your brothers started to grow bigger and stronger and you hadn't quite so much, I would remember this and such a fear and dread would overcome me. I used to cling to you but you never saw yourself that way, did you? Reeves let his light blue eyes rise to look at her and already her words lifted his heart a bit and a soft smile lifted the corners of his mouth as she came closer to him, her own smile making his grow a bit more. He shook his head no when she spoke, remembering how he'd been smaller than his brothers but had never thought of himself as weak or struggling. He just figured he would be better at different things than Cadoc and Magnus. Sure he never had their size or strength, but he had brains and was always playful and easy going.
You were the smaller one, but there is nothing weak about you, Reeves. As I said before; you are alive and healthy. You are also an adult; free to choose what you want to do with your life. Eyes never leaving her, he felt a bit of sadness come over him when she spoke, knowing that he had to leave his mother when he had finally just been reunited with her. I just want to make something very clear; we were a family before these stones came into our lives, and I won't let them take that away from me. I will help you search for the soul stone master if you promise to speak to your sister or brother as well.
Reeves listened to her words and a smile spread across his face once more. He knew that the Lucis Temple saw plenty of travelers coming in and out and they heard about a lot of things throughout the lands. With the help of his mother, it just might be possible for him to find the master he was looking for. Dipping his head in a nod, Reeves's light blue eyes came to rest on his mother. "Tell Seda I said hello, I will go visit Magnus. See if he would have any idea where to start searching. He is a king after all." Reeves replied, nudging his mother a bit when he told her Magnus was a king like she didn't already know. A flicker of his old, carefree humor appearing for a split second before he was serious again.
Rubbing his head against her shoulder, he took in her scent one last time before pulling away just enough so he could look her in the eyes. "I promise I'll be back mother. I swear it."
Larue knew Reeves would be happy with her conclusion. She would be a selfish mother to cause her son anguish by keeping him here just because she feared for him. It wasn't like he didn't have a good reason either. All that mattered was that at this moment, he was fine, and her heart could at least be at rest about that. She hoped her visions in her dreams would continue, however. Even if he was independant and a flourishing adult, he was still her cub, and given the chance she would be all the way in his business.
To see him so excited brought laughter out of Larue, and she happily nudged him back. Magnus was indeed a king. She wondered to what extent would she support Reeves efforts. Of course, if it wasn't enough to her she could give him a little push."Is he really?" she joked, with a look of astonishment on her face.
She hugged her son once again, burying her chin in his soft mane and soaking in the moment. She didn't want it to ever end, but it had to. And when he did he made her a promise both with his words and with his eyes that gave her a sense of ease now that she knew that he had the ability to come back. "I know you will, dear. Seda and I will be waiting too. It will be a day worth celebrating." Larue responded softly. Her voice was silky and smooth like honey; reflecting her younger mothering days. Most of it was due to her currently sleeplessness state however. Coincidentally, they were also the most physically exhausting days.

Reeves smiled when his mother smiled, glad to see that she was happy and alright here at Lucis Temple. He knew that her and Seda were doing great things here and while normally they would be the first cats he would go to for help, he couldn't risk hurting them with his abilities, especially when he didn't know how to handle them. He'd have to go on his own. He would be alright though, he knew that much. After all, he was a Katsaros and they only had the strongest blood pulsing through their veins.
Is he really? His brows raised and his eyes widened when she spoke, acting like a cub again who had just found out the coolest thing ever. He would miss his mother, he knew that much. He missed her already, just thinking about leaving her. But the sooner he left, the sooner he could come back and see his family again. This time without the fears that haunted him day in and day out.
I know you will, dear. Seda and I will be waiting too. It will be a day worth celebrating. Reeves smiled and nuzzled his mother back, taking in her scent one more time before pulling back so his eyes could rest on her face once more, committing the image to memory. "Seda's gonna be pissed I didn't say hi to her.." He teased a bit, wincing a bit at the words his sister would have when she did finally see him. He finally let his silliness slip away and gave his mother a warm smile before taking a deep breath.
Rubbing his cheek against her shoulder once more, he purred softly before taking a few steps towards the open side of the temple that he'd entered from earlier. "Get some sleep mother, I'll see you soon." He called before heading down the stairs and into the night again, his heart feeling much lighter than it had in quite awhile.
